An Australian man has made the bizarre claim that his partner ran him over with her car because he dipped into her food and helped himself to her fries (or "chips" as the Brits and Australians call them).

Matthew Finn of Adelaide, Australia, made the claim in court where his 42-year-old partner Charlotte Harrison faced charges of aggravated endangering life and driving in a reckless or dangerous manner, per 9News.

While in court, Finn stated that the dispute began when the pair were driving down a busy road on Sunday afternoon, and he took a fry from Harrison's "chicken and chips pack". He says he asked beforehand.

Speaking to the outlet outside of the court, Finn said: "I thought she was finished. Yeah, I shouldn't have asked for that chip."

The Australian man then alleges that he got out of the vehicle following a dispute about the fry, and Harrison drove at him with her vehicle.

While allegedly aiming at Finn, she drove into oncoming traffic and hit a power box. "Straight into a Toyota Yaris, and yeah, the poor girl, she'd be shocked for life. That was the worst part," Finn said.

Harrison strongly disputes the claims made against her, as she revealed that she was driving her partner to the hospital when he began assaulting her in the vehicle.

She claims to have come to his aid after he was feeling unwell earlier in the day, but on the way to receive treatment, Finn allegedly demanded to be let out of the car before assaulting her.

Once out of the vehicle, Harrison's attorney alleged that the accused dangerous driver wasn't attempting to injure Finn, but instead wanted to make a U-turn to notify police of the assault.

"She has, by mistake, stepped on the accelerator rather than the brake and then hit the pole as described in the CCTV footage," her attorney said, via the Daily Mail.

They continued: "It's accepted that on viewing the CCTV footage that it might look like there was an attempt to endanger the complainant's life."

The attorney went on to allege that Harrison has been assaulted by Finn before and that he had used drugs and previously spent time in prison.

Being in court for a bail application, Harrison claims that she should be released because she "complied with police" during their investigation.

Though the magistrate offered his concerns that the accused might be a flight risk and added that the situation, supported by the surveillance footage, was "concerning."

The prosecutors have not yet made their allegations and Harrison is due back in court this coming Friday.
