A woman has sprouted eyelashes out of her gums due to a rare condition.

Published in the medical journal Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology, a report revealed that a 25-year-old woman who had previously been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome returned to doctors six years later with eyelashes growing from her gums.

In an equally bizarre occurrence, doctors found 536 teeth in this boy's mouth:

Recounting the extremely unusual condition, the report reads: "Extraoral facial examination revealed the presence of exuberant hair on the chin and neck regions.

"Intraoral examination showed some brown hair, similar to eyelashes, which were removed and the underlying tissue histologically analysed. One year later, the patient came back with even more widespread presence of oral hairs distributed on the gingivae of both arches.

As per the journal, oral hirsutism is an extremely rare condition and of the small number of cases recorded, none of them have been as extreme as this woman's.

It says: "The occurrence of hairs in the oral cavity is an exceedingly rare event, with unknown etiology. A literature review found only five cases, most of which described a single hair localized in various sites of the oral cavity."

The report concluded: "The occurrence of hairs in the oral cavity is an extremely rare finding. The etiology is still unknown; however, an investigation of systemic health is always desirable because more complex medical conditions may be present and not recognized."

However, this is not the only story about unusual hair growth to hit the headlines in recent weeks. A baby born int he US hit the headlines because of his excessive hair growth which led to him being dubbed "mini Wolverine".

Born in early hours of 28 January at the United Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota, baby Jonathan's parents, Nancy Rivera and Anthony Lopez, were shocked to see that he not only had a full head of black hair but hairy arms, legs, and shoulders too.

As per the Sun, 28-year-old Lopez said of his son: "We cannot believe how much hair he has.

"When he first came out it had almost formed a beard on his face and some people have joked he will be shaving before he starts walking.

"All of the nurses were joking he was going to keep warm during the winter. All of our family have found it really entertaining.

"Jonathan is like a mini Wolverine."
