A baby girl has been born missing all four of her limbs due to a rare genetic disorder, leaving medical experts and family baffled.
Pictures and videos of the child, from the Sakla village of Sironj Tehsil in central India's Madhya Pradesh Vidisha, were released on June 26.
You can see a video of the baby girl in the video below:Per reports, the infant was born with an autosomal recessive congenital disorder known as Tetra-Amelia, which is characterized by the absence of all four limbs.
Dr. Suresh Aggarwal, who works as a pediatrician at the Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Hospital, Sironj, has told reporters that despite missing both arms and legs, the baby girl is perfectly healthy.
Tetra-Amelia syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in the WNT3 gene and is incredibly rare.
According to Bhopal CMHO and pediatrician Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari, the syndrome affects one-in-100,000 newborns, adding that the girl is the first such case he has seen throughout his career.
However, a 2011 study by Dr. Eva Bermejo-Sanchez of the Research Centre on Congenital Anomalies (CIAC) at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III in Spain concluded that the disorder occurs in roughly one out of every 71,000 pregnancies.
In many cases, the child's lungs are underdeveloped, resulting in difficulty breathing, and in some instances, impossible.
Doctors have suggested that the baby girl will be taken in for further assessments in order to determine if her internal organs have developed as per norms.
Perhaps the most well-known individual with tetra-amelia syndrome is Nicholas James Vujicic, who was born in 1982.
Australian Vujicic now works as an Christian evangelist and motivational speaker.
Nicholas James Vujicic's incredible TEDTalk can be seen below:Author of several books and traveling over 44 countries, Vujicic advocates positivity and motivation even after being born without all four limbs.
The father has openly spoken out about the bullying he faced growing up, revealing that he contemplated suicide at the age of 10.
Vujicic, who is now 37, married wife Kanae Miyahara back in 2012. The couple now has four children.
