Horrific video emerges showing moment woman plunged 65ft to her death off the top of a waterfall
A harrowing video has captured the moment a woman was swept over the edge of a waterfall in Indonesia, plunging more than 65 feet to her death.
Windy Rahma Putri, 25, was resting above Robo Waterfall in Harau, a protected nature reserve and canyon in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra, on Thursday when currents swept her away, and she fell more than 65ft down the steep falls.
In the devastating footage shared online, the woman can be seen trying to sit up after bathing on rocks. However, as she moves, she loses her grip on the slippery surface and is swept toward the edge of the cliff.
In a desperate attempt to save herself, she reaches out to a person nearby, presumably a friend, but is unable to grab hold before disappearing into the waterfall.
Rescuers recover woman's body after overnight search
Search and rescue crews launched a search operation after receiving reports of the fatal fall.
Despite their efforts, they were unable to locate Windy on the first day. But her body was found the following morning at the bottom of the deep ravine below the waterfall.
A total of 119 people took part in the search, including military, disaster management agency, firefighters, police, and local people in the community.
The treacherous terrain made the recovery challenging, forcing rescuers to use a specialized rope system to carefully bring her body back up the cliffside.
Windy's body was eventually handed to her family to be taken home.
Man dies at Brazilian waterfall days after filming chilling warning
This horrific incident comes days after a 32-year-old local mechanic fell hundreds of feet to his death at a waterfall in Brazil after sharing videos of himself discussing how deadly a fall would be.
Maurício Marques Gomes was hiking at the Fortuna Waterfall in Macaé on October 12, according to Brazilian outlets g1 and Band.
Per the publications, Gomes posted a clip of himself at the top of the waterfall to his WhatsApp followers, allegedly saying: "If you fall from here, man, it’s certain death, right? Are you crazy? Who could survive that?"
According to a friend who watched the videos, Gomes reportedly said he planned to leave his phone filming as he walked across a large rock.
Concern grew when he failed to return home that evening, prompting his loved ones to alert the police.
Firefighters recovered the 32-year-old's body from the pool beneath the waterfall on October 13. It was later determined that he passed from trauma related to the fall.
The mechanic's sister revealed that her brother frequently visited the hiking area, which is home to several other waterfalls, but that this was the first time he had ever made it to the top of the Fortuna Waterfall.
Gomes was laid to rest in Córrego do Ouro on Wednesday, October 14.
