A shocking video of the "absolutely disgusting" mess left a McDonald's in Australia has angered many users on social media.

Footage taken at the fast food chain's restaurant on Bourke Street in Melbourne was shared on TikTok by a user - who goes by the handle @lordzsmurf - last Wednesday (September 13) and has caused quite a commotion online.

The footage revealed tables at the diner littered with rubbish, with plastic cups, paper bags, and empty food boxes scattered everywhere.

Food debris can also be seen around the bottom of the tables, with several seemingly unbothered people still eating their meals despite the clutter around them.

The clip begins with a customer, who is sitting with a group of others, picking up his soft drink, and throwing it across the diner. The drink then lands on the ground, next to another group of diners, with the liquid spilling everywhere.

The impudent act prompted a visibly enraged man sitting with friends to briefly get up and stare at the person who hurled their beverage as it had been added to the several other tossed plastic cups on the floor.

Several other drinks can also be seen splattered across the floor of the fast food chain. An overflowed garbage can is also noticed in the distance, with junk piled on top of one another.

The person who captured the terrible scene - which is captioned "Macca's Melbourne" - on his phone is heard laughing.

After the upsetting video was shared on the social media platform, it was quickly flooded with comments from angry users expressing their shock at the sight of the restaurant.

One of the 2.2 million viewers said: "What is wrong with people? absolutely disgusting and embarrassing." Another criticized: "I see this so often, people of all ages responsible but mostly teens and younger generations have zero respect now."

A third blasted: "New gens are trash," while a fourth said: "How sad is this generation."

An alleged former staff member who worked at the restaurant responded to the post, saying the horrifying scenes were a typical occurrence. "I used to work here, it was hell and still the same [on] weekend nights," they disclosed.

The disheartening video comes after the restaurant introduced a digital health, safety, and well-being platform for its 115,000 employees in the country.

The Sonder app provides a range of mental health care, medical advice, and personal safety support such as 24/7 live chats with professional nurses and psychologists.

Staff can also access daily well-being resources such as assessments and information on how to maintain healthy habits, clinical care, depression, stress, and anxiety assessment, as well as a grid of on-demand pre-planned responders.

Craig Cowdrey, co-founder and chief executive officer at Sonder, shared his excitement on the app launch, stating: "We’re excited to partner with McDonald’s to set the standard for what a great employee experience looks like, by supporting crew members and their families with a wide range of health, safety, and wellbeing needs."

"By helping these employees live well and perform their best, we can ensure McDonald’s continues to be an employer of choice for generations to come," he added.
