The developer Sony has just released some brand new pictures and information about the controller for the upcoming Playstation 5 games console.
The DualShock model of controller has been around since the console family's inception, only getting a minor change in ergonomics with the release of the Playstation 4.
But now the so-called 'DualSense' controller has deviated from the old format quite a bit, featuring a white and blue color scheme, and a number of cool new features.
Have a look at the trailer for the recent Crash Bandicoot Remake:In a blog post on Playstation's official website, Sony wrote that: "We adopted haptic feedback, which adds a variety of powerful sensations you’ll feel when you play, such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud."
They added: "We also incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow."
In addition to this, Sony has also replaced the 'share' button on the DualShock 4 with the 'create' button, a feature that they claim they will talk more about in a future update.
The DualSense also features a built-in microphone array; enabling players to chat with friends without a headset, as well as a sleeker shape and a longer battery life. It's also slightly more lightweight than the DualShock, despite all these added features.
Previously, PlayStation president Jim Ryan has tweeted about the Playstation 5's 'haptics' technology, stating: "With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud."
The Playstation 5 is due for release sometime in Q4 of 2020, but this new controller is sure to drum up excitement in the meantime...
