The news was broken on social media earlier today, when the official Playstation Twitter account posted an image of the logo for the upcoming machine, along with the caption: "Tomorrow at 9 am Pacific Time, PS5 lead system architect Mark Cerny will provide a deep dive into PS5’s system architecture, and how it will shape the future of games. In a prior interview with Wired, PS5 Cherny confirmed that the as-yet-unreleased console will feature complete backwards compatibility with older Playstation models.

Cherny stated: "Because [the PS5] is based in part on the PS4's architecture, it will also be backwards-compatible with games for that console. As in many other generational transitions, this will be a gentle one, with numerous new games being released for both PS4 and the next-gen console."

Meanwhile, PlayStation president Jim Ryan has previously tweeted that the Playstation 5 controller will feature cutting edge 'haptics' technology, stating: "With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud."

The Playstation 5 is due to be released in time for Christmas 2020...
