The Blood Orange supermoon on May 26 is going to be the most spectacular full moon in years.

It will appear as part of a total eclipse, which occurs when the sun, earth, and moon come together in the sky to completely cover the light of the moon.

The orange supermoon gets its name from the color the moon turns during the eclipse. According to timeanddate.com, for 14 minutes the moon will transform to an orange/red color.

However, what makes this year's event all the more special is that the orange supermoon will be coinciding with a total eclipse for the first time in two and a half years, NASA reports.

The moon is also known as the super flower moon because it takes place when the moon comes to its closest to the Earth, which has the effect of making it bigger and brighter than it usually is.

This year's moon also begins what's known as an "almost tetrad", which is the name for four total eclipses taking place in two years.

Three of these four eclipses will be full eclipses, meaning that it is almost a tetrad, with experts stating that one of the events is not quite a total eclipse.

If you are located in the US, eastern Americas, and parts of East Asia, you will be able to see the total eclipse, however, if you're in the UK, you'll only be able to witness the blood orange moon (which is still pretty impressive).

The best time to spot the blood moon in the UK is at 12:15 AM, and you don't even have to have a clear view of the night sky from your window, as the event is being live-streamed by Time and Date.

The MET Office's long-term weather forecast reports that if you're in the UK, there are likely to be clear skies on the night of April 26, which should make the event all the more spectacular.

Their website reads: "There is a chance of more settled conditions to gradually become established. Rain and showers are likely to clear away to the east, leaving drier and less windy conditions behind."
