Ah, the life of a rock and roll poet sex god. It's got to be tough, right? When they're not busy boozing and using
all of the drugs, you can find them revelling amongst their super-model groupies, each one more lithe and long-legged than the last. But it's evident that the veritable hey-day of rock and roll decadence and excess is well and truly over. I mean, you can't exactly compare Jim Morrison to
Justin Bieber, or Bryan Ferry to Ed Sheeran, can you?
Yes, groupie culture, while continually romanticised in novels and movies such as Almost Famous, remains very much a relic of the avant-gardism of the music scene of the 60s and 70s. But it's safe to say that now mythologised figures such as Mick Jagger and Keith Richards would not be considered so cool if they weren't surrounded by the likes of Jerry Hall and Anita Pallenberg, whose sartorial influence still informs the tastes of today's socialites and fashionistas.
As such, we remain intrigued by the sexual exploits of the men who had it all: talent, fame, and their choice of the decade's glamazons. So when former professional wrestler Ric Flair claimed that he had slept with over 10,000 women, it was promptly taken down by rock and roll legend Steven Tyler, we couldn't help but chuckle.
The Aerosmith frontman didn't hold back when affronted with Ric Flair's recent claim of having slept with over 10,000 women, all whilst masturbating twice a day.
The 69-year-old singer and songwriter was quizzed about Ric's assertion by a TMZ camera jockey, and his response didn't disappoint. While he was initially puzzled about who the professional wrestling manager and former WWE star was, and had to ask "who", Tyler quickly realised who the jockey was going on about. He then nonchalantly replied "Oh, I've got him so beat".
The TMZ representative proceeded to ask Tyler if he knew the number of women he slept with, to which he said: "I was too busy getting high". And when he was quizzed again about Ric's outrageous claim, the Dream On singer epically said that Flair was "full of s**t".
It's safe to assume that Steven Tyler has enjoyed more than his fair share of women. When asked by Elle Magazine about his sex life back in February 2009, the frontman was adamant that he'd never had his advances shunned. "Never. I'm a persistent motherf***er. I'm very sensual and very rhythm-oriented and into poetry. Women can feel that," he said.
Tyler is one of many musical legends who claim to have bedded an astounding number of women. Gene Simmons of the iconic glam-rock ensemble, Kiss, has alleged that he has slept with a whopping 4,800. And if you're wondering how he can be so precise, it's all down to his rather unusual documentation methods. Speaking to a British tabloid, Simmons said: "I took Polaroid photos for a long time [...] I took photos of the vast majority. It just proves you can be an ugly b*tch and if you've got the right job you'll have access."
