An unfortunate dog has been left looking like the character of Sid the Sloth from the animated movie Ice Age after a haircut from a dog groomer went horribly awry.

According to The Daily Mirror, the incident in question occurred earlier this week, when a Twitter user going by the handle @REALBURTIIS took to the platform to share an image of the bizarrely-groomed pooch on Friday, February 26.

The Mirror reports that the Twitter user had been tasked to pick up his grandmother's dog from the groomer, and got a nasty shock when he saw that the adorably fluffy Shih Tzu had been shaved, and now looked noticeably skinnier and more bug-eyed.

He captioned the post: "Count your f***ing days petsmart [sic]" in a reference to the groomer.

The Twitter user's post quickly picked up a lot of attention online and has accrued over 78,000 retweets, and over 557,000 likes as of the time of writing.

A number of other Twitter users also posted memes and image macros of their own, or just expressed their amusement and dismay over the little dog's appearance.

For instance, one person wrote: "They know they’re wrong!! Then they threw a bow on her Face with tears of joy WE STILL NOTICE! [sic]"

Another person commented: "They made the dog look like a crackhead Omggg. [sic]"

Someone else chimed in: "Petsmart f***ed my last dog ALL the way up. Full buzz cut to the skin on a bischon in the middle of December in Ny. I almost scalped her. [sic]"

Another confused person asked: "I’ve never had a dog to bring in for grooming so excuse any ignorance, but don’t people tell them what type of cut they want?"

Someone replied to this: "Yes but groomers aren’t miracle workers. If they couldn’t do what she wanted they should’ve told her.

"My groomers don’t do this without signed permission. PetSmart is bottom level groomers so when people complain it’s like you get what you pay for."

Someone else added; "naw man, this like the chicken from Moana."

Meanwhile, another dog groomer wrote: "As a former groomer I'm telling you the first pic is not a matted dog. There was no need for this foolery that groomer did."

So if you're taking a beloved pet to a groomer and don't want them to end up looking like a laughing stock, then please take care to specify the type of cut you want. It could save the animal a lot of ridicule!
