A man took in what he thought to be a puppy when he discovered it on the side of the road.
The pooch was unable to fend for herself when she was found by a Twitter user named Marcy, who picked her up in the hope of returning to her owner, but it soon transpired that the puppy wasn't quite what it appeared to be.

After Marcy found the apparent puppy, who he named Luna, he took to Twitter to ask his followers if any of them had lost a dog. But it wasn't long before Marcy's followers told him that Luna isn't, in fact, a puppy. She is a baby fox.
After Twitter pointed this out, Marcy said that he was going to take Luna to a vet to find out for sure.
Marcy, who is from Japan, wrote on his Twitter: "Thank you for your many retweets and opinions.
"I had a good night's sleep after eating rice last night, and this morning I have a good appetite with defecation and urination.
"Isn't it a fox? I will confirm it later with the veterinarian."

It wasn't long before Marcy's mistake went viral and a vet confirmed that Luna is a fox. However, in Japan, it is illegal to keep foxes as pets because they have the ability to carry potentially dangerous parasites, so Marcy handed Luna over to a farm.
"We have completed handing over the fox to Kita Kitsune Farm," he updated his followers.
"If you have the opportunity, I would be happy if you could visit Luna."

According to experts at the farm, Luna is around two months old, and they will look after her until she's able to successfully fend for herself in the wild.
Now, Marcy has developed a real love of foxes and is using his Twitter platform to advocate for their safety.
