Losing a pet is a seriously traumatic thing to go through. When a beloved furry friend escapes its home and becomes lost, the owner will almost always be frantic with worry while the animal is gone, and some of these lost pets aren't always found again - even after several months of frantic searching.

However, this week a missing dog story culminated in a happy ending, after a compassionate FedEx employee took it upon himself to personally see that a missing dog was delivered home safely.

Take a look at this news report on the heartwarming story:

According to a report by KDVR Lisa Menzies (who hails from Castle Pines in Colorado) lost her three-year-old golden retriever Catcher when a breeze blew open her front door and the dog ran away.

Her security camera captured the pooch wandering off. But luckily a Good Samaritan came in the form of a FedEx driver, who picked up Catcher and brought him straight home. The same camera also recorded the heartwarming moment the dog was brought back safe.

Commenting on the incident in a later interview, Menzies stated: "We were getting some repairs done on the house. Our contractor left to go to lunch and shut the front door, and the wind blew the door open while I was gone, and Catcher escaped. She could have wandered out to a busy road and you hate to think what’s going to happen then."

She continued: "Seeing him carry her into the house like that … in my head, I was thinking of the theme song from the Titanic. He was taking such care and love with her that it was really amusing.”

She added: "He interrupted his day and his package delivery schedule to pick her up and hand-carry her into our home and lock the door behind him. I don’t want to think about where else she could have ended up. He is certainly our family’s hero."
