Whoever coined the phrase "a dog is man's best friend", really hit the nail on the head when it comes to describing the close and affectionate companionships we are able to develop with our canine counterparts.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows at least one person who says that they "love dogs more than people", and that's because they're oh-so-adorable, loyal and playful. Dog owners love their pooches so much that they will fight to the death to ensure no one harms a single strand of fluff on their heads.

The most dedicated owners are even willing to go on Judge Judy in order to ensure their dog is in safe hands. Check out this heartwarming moment:

And it goes both ways, dogs are always reciprocating the love they have for their human companions.

For instance, there's this one pooch, named Dash, who shares an unbreakable bond with a three-year-old boy by the name of Peyton.

Recently, in fact, the English mastiff went viral after a photo surfaced of him keeping the toddler company during a time-out.

His mom, Jillian Marie Smith, posted a photo on Facebook showing the loyal pooch standing next to Peyton while the little boy faces the wall.

"When you’re in time-out but your best pal won’t let you serve your time alone," Jillian wrote in the caption.
