A passenger has gone viral after making the ingenious decision to wear all of their clothes to avoid the excess baggage fee.

The hilarious incident happened to Gel Rodriguez from the Philippines. She was told that she would have to pay the fee after her luggage exceeded the maximum weight of 7 kilograms, but instead of coughing up the cash, she simply began to add layer after layer.

Rodrigeuz's techniques may be frowned upon, but these passengers were definitely up to no good:

This took her bag from an overweight 9 kilos to 6.5.

"I didn't want to pay the fee for the excess baggage because it was only two kilograms (4.4 lbs)," Gel told VICE.

However, she explained that while her solution might have saved her a little cash, it's not something that she ever intends to do again because of the obvious. "It was really hot," she said.

She also added that had she known her post would receive so much attention - at the time of writing, it has more than 33K likes and 20K shares on Facebook - she'd have "posed better".

In the video below, an airport guard hands a passenger a cruel note:

She captioned the hilarious snap on Facebook: "From 9kg to 6.5kg baggage," adding a laughing emoji, along with the hashtag: #ExcessBaggageChallengeAccepted."

Needless to say, it caught the eye of countless social media users who wish that they'd been as savvy when presented with an excess baggage fee at the airport.

"Why didn't I think of this hahaha," one said.

"I wish I did this, I ended up throwing some of my things in the trash bin. What a pity," another said.

One said: "Hahaha good idea."

So, the next time you see the scales at the airport go that dreaded kilo too many, you might want to follow in Gel's footsteps - hopefully, you'll have the bonus of flying to a cold destination where those extra layers will come in handy!
