Bella Ramsey has opened up about their sexual orientation for the first time in a recent interview.
The 19-year-old had a personal conversation with Vogue about their career and sexuality for the outlet's upcoming July Pride issue.
Ramsey - who has risen to international stardom in recent years for her roles in Game of Thrones and The Last of Us - opened up to the magazine about which pronouns make them feel more comfortable, having previously said they accepted both she/her and they/them.
As for their sexuality, Ramsey revealed that they're "not 100% straight" and that they were dipping their toes into the dating world after coming out as non-binary last year.
"You never fully know who you are, it's ever-evolving. But I certainly think that people have gathered that I'm not 100 percent straight. I'm a little bit wavy, you know? That's what I like to say," they said, adding that, when it comes to dating: "I'm 19, so figuring that out's gonna be a part of my life. Relationships are so complex anyway, and if you're in the public eye, everyone having an opinion about them adds an extra layer of difficulty."
On coming out as nonbinary last year they admitted that they had initially been worried that people would think they were trying to use a "trendy" term, and that they "fought with the word for so long." Ramsey stated: "But it's a very succinct way to describe to people who I am. Now I'm able to vocalize it more; being called 'they' is the most truthful thing for me. That's who I am the most."
The actor also spoke about their experience on set of the HBO series The Last of Us, which also starred Pedro Pascal. Ramsey said they were grateful for the supervisors on the set's costume department as they gave them multiple options for underwear - including a regular bra, a binder, and a sports bra.
"She'd say, 'You just pick whatever is most comfortable for you today,' and in the end it was just a binder. There was never anyone pressuring me," Ramsey told Vogue.
Earlier this year, the English actor told GQ UK about this choice, saying that they wore a chest binder "90% of the time" whilst on set of the wildly popular drama series.
A chest binder is often used by non-binary or transgender people who are in the process of transitioning in order to reduce the appearance of breasts, though it is not recommended that they be worn for extended periods of time given that they can restrict breathing and even cause back and chest pain if worn for too long.
Ramsey also touched upon the backlash they received when it was revealed they had been cast to play Ellie in The Last of Us. "There would be times I'd find it funny. Then I'd get to the end of a 10-minute scrolling session, put my phone down and realize: Maybe that was a bad idea," Ramsey said, remarking that people were just going to have to get used to it.
"I know people will think what they want to think. But they're gonna have to get used to it," they said via GQ.
