Twitter has gone into a meltdown over Harry Styles' recent Grammy win, arguing that his speech was out-of-touch and that the award should have gone to Beyonce. Yikes.
The 29-year-old British singer had taken home the coveted award for Album of the Year - an accolade for which Beyonce, ABBA, Bad Bunny, Mary J. Blige, Brandi Carlile, Coldplay, Kendrick Lamar, Adele, and Lizzo were all nominated.
Styles' win was met with roaring applause from the audience, however, many netizens were shocked it didn't go to Beyonce. Even Rolling Stone deemed it a "jaw-dropping" upset.
Now, Beyonce fans across the globe are demanding that Styles apologize to Beyonce for denying the singer a 33rd win, as well as for a small comment he made during his acceptance speech.
Beyonce's latest work on her Renaissance album had already won the singer three Grammys - one for Best Dance/Electronic Recording for her song 'Break My Soul', another for Best Dance/Electronic Album, and a third for Best Traditional R&B Performance for her song 'Plastic off the Sofa', ABC detailed.
Following her three most recent wins, the 41-year-old set the record for most all-time Grammy wins, though, her fans felt she deserved more. In fact, many of them have taken to social media to demand that Styles apologize to her, given that they believe she should have also taken home a fourth award for Album of the Year.
"Harry Styles needs to send Kendrick and Beyonce a 9,000 word apology text and get it tattooed all over his body," one person tweeted.
"YALL CHOSE HARRY STYLES OVER BEYONCE FOR [Album of the Year]????" another added.
A further user chimed in with: "They called Harry Styles the new King of Pop and gave him [Album of the Year] over the best body of work released in recent memory. And hyped the entire show on Beyonces back to drive ratings. I wish I could say I'm shocked."
Many of the comments on Twitter also made reference to the fact that Styles had stated: "This doesn't happen to people like me often," with scores of netizens arguing that this felt hypocritical. "'This doesn't happen to people like me often' - [Harry Styles]. We beg to differ, Harry. Mediocre white men get glamourized, rewarded and awarded over exceptionally talented, amazing Black women like [Beyonce] all day, every day. Case in point is this AOTY win," someone wrote.
"Harry Styles saying people like him don’t win very often. Meanwhile, there are watch parties in Puerto Rico rooting for Benito to win the first-ever Puerto Rican Album of the Year at the Grammys. El chiste se cuenta solo," another tweet read.
