Country music star Blake Shelton has shared a heartwarming tribute to six teenagers who died in an Oklahoma car crash on Tuesday.
Oklahoma native Shelton, 45, lost his older brother in a road accident when he himself was just 14.
On Wednesday he issued a touching tribute to the high school girls who all tragically lost their lives this week, Today reports.
"In the wake of yesterday’s unthinkable crash in our small town of Tishomingo, we as a community have all been in shock and broken-hearted," Shelton said.
More on this tragic story below:He went on to say that he was only too familiar with the pain the girl's families must be feeling - but that the community would help them to heal.
"I personally know the devastation of suddenly losing a loved one in a car accident. But our community is strong and has come together to support and wrap our arms around the families and friends that are hurting the most. There’s no question it will take a long time to heal from this tragedy," the singer said.
The musician wrapped up his tribute with a plea to "keep the prayers coming."
Although the identities of the teenagers have been kept anonymous, NBC News reports that five of the six girls were from Tishomingo, and that all the victims were aged between 15 and 17 years old.
The crash remains under investigation, but reports suggest it happened when the high school students' car collided with a semi-truck.
This is not the first time Shelton has opened up about the loss of his half-brother Ritchie, who was killed in a car accident when he was just 24 years old after the vehicle he was riding in crashed into a school bus south of Oklahoma City, per Today.
Back in November 2017, Shelton took to Twitter to commemorate his big brother on the anniversary of his death.
"Lost my brother 27 years ago today. I was only 14 at the time but it changed my life forever... Made me realize that life is precious and there’s no time like RIGHT NOW to go for it... We still miss you Richie!!" he wrote at the time.
Our thoughts continue to go out to the families of the teenagers, and all of those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
