Boxing is not for the faint-hearted.

Not only do you have to be physically strong, but mentally tough too - in the ring, at least. This is especially the case in pre-fight staredowns, designed to give fighters a chance to intimidate each other before the main event.

One woman, however, decided to take an unusual approach to her stare-down and instead of giving her opponent growlers while trying to see right into her soul, she kissed her. Yes, you read that right, she kissed her.

And, as you can imagine, this smooch on the lips went down like a lead balloon.

To see what happened next, check out the video below:

The incident took place prior to a WBO title fight between Ewa Brodnicka and Edith Soledad Matthysse, and it was Brodnicka who made the unusual decision to kiss her opponent.

Unsurprisingly, she was slapped in return. The two women then began to fight before they were pulled apart by the promoter who had initially laughed at the kiss.

So, did this make the fight itself any more brutal?

With a record of 16 wins and 10 defeats, Matthysse was a formidable fighter, particularly as her brothers Walter and Lucas are also professional boxers.

However, Brodnicka was the woman many people would have likely put their money on as she remains undefeated in her 17-game-long professional career.

While all successful sportspeople have their own tips and tricks when it comes to staying at the top of their game, after this incident, we can't help but wonder if Brodnicka has employed bizarre psychological tactics on any of her other opponents too.

When the pair eventually fought, she won once again by a split points decision, therefore maintaining her super-featherweight belt.

So, if there are any lady boxers reading, you might want to change your stare-down tactics!
