Caitlyn Jenner has come under fire for claiming that her friends are leaving California over the sight of homeless people.

The Olympic gold medalist - who recently announced her run for California governor -  has sparked major backlash for her comments about the state's long-running problem with homelessness.

Speaking from her private plane hangar, she told Fox News: "My friends are leaving California.

"My hangar, the guy right across, he was packing up his hangar and I said, where are you going? And he says, 'I'm moving to Sedona, Arizona, I can't take it here anymore. I can't walk down the streets and see the homeless'."

She added: "I don’t want to leave, okay? Either I stay and fight, or I get out of here."

Jenner's comment raised eyebrows on social media, with many fans hitting out at the former athlete for her bold remarks.

One Twitter user wrote: "It takes a lot of balls to own multiple mansions and an airplane hanger and still B***h about the homeless."

While another added: "I'll be honest, I was skeptical of Caitlyn Jenner's run for governor until I heard her plan to get rid of the homeless to aesthetically please private jet owners."

A third tweeted: "Has anyone checked on Caitlyn Jenner's hangar neighbor? Did he make it to Sedona, Arizona? Has he avoided seeing the homeless?"

Another social media user wrote: "Does Caitlyn Jenner realize that a large percentage of homeless people in LA are trans people who are forced to the brutal margins because they're not multi-millionaires like her."

While another Twitter user chimed in: "Say what you will about Caitlyn Jenner, but her position that no wealthy person in this country should have to worry about whether their airplane hangar is free of homeless persons in sight is definitely bold."

It comes as Jenner recently sparked backlash for her stance on trans women competing in female sports, saying that she is against the idea.

But despite her thoughts on the matter, Indy100 reported that Jenner competed in a tournament in which she was driving from the women's tees, whereby golfers are closer to the flag.

The publication stated that Jenner competed in the ANA Inspiration Pro-Am in Rancho Mirage, California in 2016.

The women's tee ultimately won the tournament and Jenner - a former Olympic decathlete - began each hole considerably closer to the flag.
