Caitlyn Jenner reportedly took part in a women's golf tournament - in spite of her views that trans girls should stay out of female sports.

According to Indy100, Jenner, 71, competed in a tournament in which she was driving from the women's tees, whereby golfers are closer to the flag.

The publication goes on to state that she competed in the ANA Inspiration Pro-Am in Rancho Mirage, California in 2016.

The women's tee ultimately won the tournament and Jenner - a former Olympic decathlete - began each hole considerably closer to the flag.

Considering her apparent views on transgender women in sports, her involvement in the tournament sparked debate amongst some people on social media.

One person shared an article on the 2016 sports event, writing: "Something tells me she doesn't really believe the things she says to try to get Republicans to vote for her."

Others branded the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star a hypocrite, with a different critic writing: "A hypocrite running under the GOP banner? How could this possibly be?"

A third wrote: "I'm convinced that famous people, politicians, and anyone with fame gets the flash thing from MIB every morning cause they seem to contradict themselves on damn near daily basis."

Jenner's alleged involvement in the tournament would have come years before she publically stated that she opposes trans girls taking part in female sports.

The reality star made the remarks over the weekend telling TMZ it's a "question of fairness".

She told the publication: "That's why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls' sports in school. It just isn't fair, and we have to protect girls' sports in our schools."

However, when the reporter implied that her views might "delegitimize" the identity of trans girls, the reality star decided to bring the conversation to an abrupt end.

Check out what she had to say here:

Jenner is currently gearing up for her campaign for governor of California. Last month, the Republican announced on Twitter that she is running for the role in a bid to replace Democrat Gavin Newsom.
