A lot can change in ten years, and sometimes it can really throw you through a loop that the musician you grew up with has gotten that old or somehow that child actor has become an adult without you realising.
Recently, the '10 year challenge' lead to many people across social media sharing photos of themselves in 2009 and 2019, and even some big celebrities got in on the action. Some of these big stars end up ageing so well, it's hard not to get a little jealous when the years just don't show whatsoever...
A lot of these celebrities look pretty much exactly the same as they did 10 years ago. Having all the money in the world to pay for personal trainers and caterers probably doesn't hurt - but there's probably something to learn from their lifestyles.
We're coming to the end of the last decade, and soon we'll be entering 2020. It's a new decade: a time for reflection and introspection, to look back at what has passed us by. A whole lot has changed over the last ten years when you think about it. We're all a bit older, we're all a bit wiser, and some of us look completely different. Lately, plenty of people have been playing the 10-year challenge, where they compare pictures of themselves from a decade ago to images of themselves nowadays, to see how much they've changed.
Indeed, even our favorite celebrities have changed a lot. No really, they have! The ones who were pint-sized are now all grown up, while the ones who were adults already might have changed their style or look. You might not have realized just how much a lot of them have changed, but believe me: they have. Scroll down to check out some side-by-side pics of how much celebrities have changed since 2010.
There have been plenty of humiliating challenges over the years; the Kylie Jenner challenge where participants used shot glasses to help plump their lips up, and the Cinnamon challenge where people ate a spoonful of ground cinnamon in under 60 seconds without drinking anything certainly stand out.
But with the arrival of 2019, came perhaps one of the most embarrassing tasks of them all: the 10-year challenge, where people were forced to upload a photo of their 2009 selves, emo-fringe, cringe-worthy fashion choices and all.
However, one person who isn't ashamed to post a picture of herself from a decade ago in the slightest is Mariah Carey.

The All I Want For Christmas Is You songstress recently took to social media to join the packs of people who had taken part in the viral craze - but her post was far from humiliating, it was iconic.
Mariah shut down the 10-year challenge when she posted two identical pictures of herself side-by-side and wrote: "I don't get this 10 year challenge, time is not something I acknowledge. ?♀️ *Picture taken at some point prior to today."
You hear that? Time is not something the Queen of Christmas acknowledges because, unlike the rest of us, she is above it. Her cells do not age and die, they only get better.
The 48-year-old's followers adored the hilarious post, taking to the comment section to express their appreciation.
"The Songbird Supreme doesn’t know age and numbers and the only time we know is the one Love Takes," wrote Twitter user @Ashley_SB88. Another user going by the name of @steviescatalog added: "I've never seen someone slay so hard in my life".
Many others also pointed out that, if Mariah did choose to do the 10-year challenge properly like the rest of us, there wouldn't be any difference at all.
"But also you look exactly the same as you did 10 years ago bc you are an ageless legend," wrote Twitter user @GreggyBennett.
Social media user @themcmeneses even went so far as to compare Mariah in 1999 to her in 2017 - an 18-year difference - and confirmed what we all knew already: Mariah does not age.
Another A-lister who completely slew the popular social media challenge was Caitlyn Jenner.
It's no secret that the 69-year-old is a transgender woman whose gender change became publicised in 2015. This, of course, means that in 2009, the retired Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete was living as a man.
Posting one picture of her living as a man, and the second of her living her truth as a woman, Caitlyn completely and utterly owned the challenge.
"Now THAT is a #10YearChallenge," she captioned the picture. "Be authentic to yourself ?".
So, chaps. When you dig out your snaps from 2009, just think, you've got some fierce competition from two rather fabulous ladies. Think you can beat Mariah and Caitlyn? Good luck trying!
All over social media, everyone seems to be taking part in the ten-year challenge, and it's fair to say that some of the before/after pictures have been pretty interesting. In case you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, and have never heard of it before, the ten-year challenge is a game in which participants make each other share two side-by-side photographs of themselves ten years apart; one from 2009 and one from 2019, to show their social media followers how hard ageing has hit them over the space of a decade.
Some have had to lament the fact that they've gotten older and wrinklier, while others have matured with age like fine wine. However, some lucky people, however, looked good back in 2009, and now look good in 2019. One of these is 17-year-old French model Thylane Blondeau, who was a child model who became famous at the age of just seven for a beautiful appearance, and who was named 'Most Beautiful Girl in the World' back in 2009.
Now, Thylane has taken to Instagram to share her own 10-year challenge with her many social media followers. She posed the side-by-side picture of herself as a kid as now as a young adult, and captioned the pic: "#10yearchallenge !!! And thanks for 2.9M!!! [sic]" The post in question has since managed to accrue over 420,000 likes.
In an interview with French magazine L’Officiel back in 2018, Thylane opened up about her ambivalence to the moniker which made her a celebrity.
"Firstly: I do not consider myself the most beautiful girl in the world!" she stated, "When I was little, people always told me. But I did not even understand what they meant. Because who says that? Who says I am the most beautiful? I can not do anything with it. I can not do anything about how I look. This is who I am."
"Fortunately, I have a number of lovely people around me with whom I am very close. In addition, I am very shy. You probably noticed that already. I am very normal, though! At least, I experience my life as normal. I live in southern France. And I have my friends here. Just like my peers. I feel as old as them. But my friends sometimes point out that I lead a different life. But I do not feel that way. I also live at home, nice with my mother. You know, my mother is everything to me. I will never live alone! Never!"
She also spoke about her love of Instagram, stating: "I love Instagram! I have many followers and I also think that I should offer them something. I have a private life and a public life, but they are completely mixed up. But I grew up with it. I do not know better! I’m only seventeen, right? I have no problem with it. I even like it! And it is important for my career."
It's debatable as to whether anyone is the 'most beautiful' anything in the world. But personally, I think Thylane comes close. Still, I don't think I'll be posting my own ten-year-challenge anytime soon. Mine would be a lot more embarrassing.
As if having millions in the bank and winning the genetic lottery wasn't enough, some celebrities are blessed in another regard: immortality - or so it would seem.
A-listers such as Paul Rudd and Anne Hathaway don't seem to have aged since the early Noughties, and it makes us seriously curious about their skincare and diet routines.
Here are eight celebs who most likely have a dramatically ageing portrait locked in their attic...
At the beginning of each New Year, many of us like to take the time to reflect on what the previous 365 days has brought to us - for better or for worse. And, with social media, it's a whole lot easier to do that now, especially with things like Timehop and Facebook Memories dragging up our embarrassing selfies from 2014.
This January, however, many people have decided to jump back even further, with lots of Instagram users digging up photos from 2009.
Obviously, some people have changed a lot more than others - especially those who went through puberty in the last decade (or those who, like me, experienced an emo phase) - and, more often than not, that change is wonderful to see. Of all 2009 vs 2019 posts, though, very few people had a glow up as good as Caitlyn Jenner's.

It is no secret that Jenner is a transgender woman, as she publicly made the announcement that she would be transitioning in 2015. The first few months following the revelation were obviously very difficult for her, as they are for almost everybody of trans experience, but she held her head up high despite the hate and criticism.
In the years since, she still continues to endure transphobia on a daily basis - especially on social media.
So, when it came round to posting a glow-up for the '10 year challenge', it would have been understandable for her to avoid sharing images of herself prior to her coming out as a woman. But Jenner didn't do that. Instead, she totally owned her womanhood by posting this side-by-side image:
"Now THAT is a #10YearChallenge," she captioned the picture. "Be authentic to yourself ?"
And, of course, fans absolutely loved it.
"So proud for showing the haters and posting your own meme," commented one person.
"RESPECT! ???? You're amazing, and a great inspiration for all ? Best #10yearchallenge ??," added another.
Needless to say, there were some horrible comments, too, but the positive ones hugely outweighed them.
"It’s your life, you have no one to answer to but your family," said one supportive fan who encouraged Jenner to ignore the hate. "Hope the next 10 years are everything you wished for. Ignore the nasty posts. Only nasty people post them! ?"

Speaking about her years living as a man, Jenner has previously said, "I liked Bruce. He was a good person. He did a lot in his life. Oh, ‘he didn’t even exist’. Yes he did exist! He worked his butt off. He won the [Olympic] Games. He raised amazing kids. He did a lot of very, very good things and it’s not like I just want to throw that away."
But when she finally came out, she only had one goal: to be her true self.
"My intentions were number one, to calm my soul. To deal with this issue and be myself. This woman had lived inside me for 65 years, it’s time for her to live! Let’s give her a shot and see what she could do," she said.
