If there's one person out there with an ionic hairstyle, it's Ariana Grande. Yeah, few people can say that they're instantly recognisable thanks to their hair, but Ariana's extra-long ponytail has become totally associated with her whole brand, and although many people have tried to emulate her personal look, few people have managed to pull it off properly. It's just another aspect of her effortless sense of style that the rest of us have learned to envy and covet at the same time.

However, it's a well-known axiom that you have to be willing to suffer for the sake of your own aesthetics, and it seems like Ariana is no exception to this rule. The more complicated the hairstyle, the more likely is that it needed hours of prep-time and hard maintenance. This week on Twitter, Ariana Grande revealed that her iconic 'do has actually kept her in a lot of pain due to her hair being held back so tightly 24/7.

It all started when Camila Cabello expressed her exasperation about how painful it was to wear her hair in a ponytail, tweeting: 'I just did a high ponytail for the first time and it is literally pulling on my BRAIN ITS SO PAINFUL HOW DO YOU DO IT @ArianaGrande." Lo and behold, Grande promptly replied: "well u actually have hair so that prolly makes it a lil more painful ..... nah jk i’m in constant pain always and don’t care at all. [sic]"

There is actually a reason why Ariana always wears the same style. In an extensive Facebook post, she xplained that: "Since people give me such a hard time about my hair I thought I'd take the time to explain the whole situation to everybody. I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first four years of playing Cat ... as one would assume, that completely destroyed my hair. I now wear a wig on Sam & Cat. [sic]"

"My real hair is back to brown and I wear extensions but I wear it in a ponytail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down. I tried wigs, they looked RIDICULOUS. Tried a weave because I am working on a new project and want to try some different looks and literally wanted to rip my scalp off. So as annoying as it is for y'all to have to look at the same hairstyle all the time, it's all that works for now."

She added: "And trust me, it's even more difficult for me to have to wait forever for my natural hair to grow back and to have to wear more fake hair than every drag queen on earth combined. So PLEASE gimme a break about the hair (or just don't look at me lol). IT'S JUST HAIR AFTER ALL. There are way, way, way more important things. Love y'all very much. [sic]"

So there you have it: ponytails really are a headache; so thank goodness Ariana still looks fabulous!
