Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been met with a wave of backlash from online trolls due to the dress that their daughter, Blue Ivy, wore to the Grammys.

The biggest names in music descended on the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for the Grammys on Sunday, and - as usual - the evening wasn't without drama.

The evening largely belonged to Taylor Swift who won Album of the Year for a record fourth time, and she even caused a bit of controversy involving Celine Dion, but that was soon squashed as they posed for photos together.

Celebs often like to bring their family to these events, and Beyoncé and Jay-Z are no different - although 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy became targeted by social media trolls over her attire.

Photos of her outfit circulated online, especially amongst fan accounts for the 12-year-old, and some people deemed it to be too "mature" for her to be wearing.

Blue Ivy wore an off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood Couture midi dress, that featured a corseted bodice and a Cinderella-esque puffy skirt.

But it wasn't Blue Ivy that people took issue with - instead, criticism was directed toward her parents.

One user wrote, per In Touch: "I don’t normally comment on stuff like this but this is a 12 year old CHILD. A child does not need to look grown up with fake nails and cleavage. Let children be children."

A second penned: "She’s not a grown-up, she’s 12 years old, she’s a beautiful child. But the dress is way too mature for a child to be wearing."

It wasn't all negative though, as many complimented Blue Ivy and her appearance.

"She is gorgeous. A perfect blend from mom and dad," one person said, while a second added: "We don’t expect anything from our Queen B. Raised an admirable girl. You are perfect Blue! We love you and your family."

Of course, given the outrageous success both Jay-Z and Beyoncé have had in their careers - and their collective years of negotiating fame - I'm sure they know what's best for their daughter more than some keyboard warriors.

This wasn't the main headline involving Beyonce and Jay-Z from the evening, as the latter made his thoughts on the Album of the Year award known.

"We want you all to get it right. We love y'all, we love y'all. We want you to get it right - or at least get it close to right," he emphasized. "And obviously, it's subjective… because it's music and it's opinion-based, but some things… I don't want to embarrass this young lady but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year."

The camera panned to Beyoncé, who holds the record for the most Grammy nominations for a female artist but has yet to secure an Album of the Year win.

Check out the moment below:

Despite her 32 Grammy wins, Beyoncé has been nominated for Album of the Year four times, losing out to artists like Taylor Swift, Beck, Adele, and Harry Styles in previous years. Her only win in the "Big Four" categories came in 2010 for 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).'

Jay-Z continued his critique, suggesting that some attendees may feel undervalued by the awards. He even got gasps from the audience when he said: "Some of you don't belong in the category."

Ending on an encouraging note, Jay-Z urged persistence, advising: "Just keep showing up. Forget the Grammys. You gotta keep showing up until they give you all those accolades you feel you deserve."
