Following Cooper and Lady Gaga's dynamic chemistry in the film A Star Is Born, fans began shipping the pair as a couple. At the 2019 Academy Awards, the stars wowed the crowd with a deeply passionate performance of Shallow. As they nuzzled up to each another by the piano, fans tweeted that it looked like they were about to make out. Or, as David Spade snarked, "Is there any chance these 2 aren’t f***ing?"

During that electric Oscars performance, Irina Shayk was sitting in the audience, front row center. Twitter users worried that she felt uncomfortable watching her boyfriend's intimate duet with another woman. However, after the song ended, Shayk was actually the first person to lead the crowd in a standing ovation. What's more, photographs showed her congratulating Gaga. She did not appear upset in the slightest.

Despite Shayk's totally unfazed reaction, the rumors about a brewing Cooper-Gaga romance persisted. After all, days before the Oscars, Gaga split from her fiancé, Christian Carino. "First of all, social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the Internet," Gaga said. "And what it has done to pop culture is abysmal. And people saw love, and guess what, that’s what we wanted you to see. This is a love song, Shallow. The movie, A Star Is Born, is a love story. We worked so hard, we worked all week on that performance."

She continued: "From a performance perspective, it was so important to both of us that we were connected the entire time. Look, I’ve had my arms wrapped around Tony Bennett for three years touring the world. When you're singing love songs, that's what you want people to feel."

True, for actors and performers, pretending to be in love with someone comes with the territory. Yet this isn't the first time a source has claimed Cooper and Shayk's relationship was troubled. In October 2018, Page Six reported that the 44-year-old actor and 33-year-old supermodel were "miserable together."

"He doesn't drink and is into spirituality," the source said. "She wants to go out... She went to Ibiza by her herself for a party that [celebrity photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott] threw."
