Marvel recently struck gold with Black Panther (or should I say, struck vibranium?). It's the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to star a black actor as the lead, and has smashed box office records, becoming the highest grossing superhero movie of all time. That's pretty impressive for introducing a new character.
Next year, Marvel will be introducing another new character, with Captain Marvel. This will be the first film in the MCU to star a female superhero as the lead - take that, Black Widow and Scarlet Witch! Oscar-Winning actress Brie Larson plays the role of Carol Danvers, a U.S. Air Force pilot whose DNA fuses with that of an alien during an accident. In preparation for the part, Brie has done nine months of training, and undergone an incredible body transformation.
On Instagram, Brie shared a couple videos of her strength training at the gym. In the first clip, she crushes it on the pull-up bar, showing off her seriously ripped back muscles. The caption reads, "9 months of training really does some stuff to your body ??? #mondaymotivation."
In the second clip, she does push-ups with metal chains around her waist, completing an impressive amount of reps. The caption reads, "Getting stronger is a process I’m committed to showing up for everyday. ???" Wow, these actors really don't mess around when they become superheroes! Fans have found the videos inspiring, and are excited to see another female superhero join The Avengers.
But that's not all. Brie also hung with out real U.S. Air Force pilots to"get closer to the core of Carol Danvers." She shared a photo of herself in the cockpit of a plane, with a Brigadier General, both in full flight suits.
"I got to learn from the best. Meet Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, 57th Wing Commander. I had the pleasure of spending time with her and many other badass, fascinating, and deeply hilarious pilots on a recent visit to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. Thank you for helping me get closer to core of Carol Danvers aka #CaptainMarvel. Thank you @marvel for bringing us together. Higher further faster more!"
So, Brie's shaping up to be a pretty badass Captain Marvel. They're filming the movie now, and it's scheduled to be released in March 2019. In case you're wondering where it falls in the MCU timeline, it will take place in the 90's, so get your Starter jackets and Zack Morris cell phones ready. In casting news, it was announced announced that Clark Gregg will return as Agent Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury - but this time, he'll have two eyes. How does he end up losing one? It probably pops up in surprise when he sees Brie's amazing back muscles.
