Last January, pop icon Britney Spears took an indefinite hiatus from her Las Vegas residency to deal with her father's life-threatening spontaneous colon rupture.

"A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died," the singer wrote on Instagram. "We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand."

Britney's father, Jamie, has undergone two surgeries to correct his health issues. However, after the second procedure, the 66-year-old suffered complications.

"Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her," a source close to Britney told People. "He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well. They’re so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her — she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself."

Various news outlets report that Britney is distraught - understandably - and has checked into a mental health facility. On Instagram, the 37-year-old, who has been in a conservatorship since her public meltdown in 2008, posted a heartfelt message.

"We all need to take a little time for a little 'me time,'" wrote Britney, while posting the inspirational quote, "Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit." TMZ's sources say she will live at the mental health facility for the next 30 days.
