Drew Barrymore sparks 'racism' debate after posting a video of her frolicking in the rain

Drew Barrymore has been accused of "disrespecting" Black creators on TikTok following a wholesome video she posted last month, in which she is seen enjoying the rain.

Barrymore's video, uploaded on July 17, shows the 47-year-old Music and Lyrics star gleefully frolicking in the rain as she urges her followers: "Whenever you can, go out into the rain. Do not miss the opportunity!"

Needless to say, the video was received well at the time she posted it, with many arguing that the actress must be "protected at all costs".

However, TikTok user, @amushroomblackly, did not take to took kindly to harmless clip, telling her own followers that the video "dismiss[es] the boundaries that black creators have set."

@amushroomblackly, whose account is no longer on the platform, issues a stern message, in which she directly addresses Barrymore.

According to the TikToker, Barrymore's video copies an a trend in which Black content creators would "frolick" outdoors.

The original video is no longer available, however, other users have been "duetting" the video since it went viral.

Directly addressing the actress, @amushroomblackly says: "You and I both know you are capable of enjoying the rain, frolicking freely, without filming it and posting it to TikTok."

She went on to say that Barrymore "cosigned people who just go out of their way to disrespect and dismiss the boundaries that black creators have set."

In any case, the TikTok creator's video was not at all well-received, with one person taking to Twitter to complain: "Frolicking in the rain is now racist."

Another said: "I have watched this video 6 times could someone please explain to me why it's racist."

A third commented: "I don’t get it at all. What’s wrong with her frolicking in the rain???"

A fourth remarked: "I'm so utterly confused. Somebody, please explain to the connection between frolicking in the rain and black people? Are there historical atrocities committed against black people by a white person(s) frolicking in the rain? My questions are genuine."
