Drew Barrymore has gone viral on social media after sharing a joyful video of herself enjoying the rain.

In a video posted on TikTok, the 47-year-old actress' shirt and glasses were spattered with rain droplets, and her hair was half-damp as she laughs up toward the sky.

Barrymore said with glee during the downpour: "Whenever you can, go out into the rain," and then shouted, "do not miss the opportunity!"

At the time of writing, the video amassed 16 million views and 3.5 million likes on the social media platform (not to mention a further 12.6 million views on Instagram reels), with many fans and celebrities taking to the comments to shower Barrymore with love.

One user wrote: "We must protect Drew at all costs, she is a beautiful soul," while TikToker Avery, who goes by the handle @averycyrus, said: "I wanna live like drew."

Musician Aurora commented: "Your inner child must be so grateful for you right now."

Many others users on Twitter and Instagram also commended the Charlie's Angels star's free-spirited energy captured in the video.

One user wrote: "The little things make all the difference in our [lives!]" While another shared: "Me and my kids played in the rain yesterday in Alabama. Something about being in the rain and embracing it makes your soul feel better."

Actress Kristen Johnston commented on the moment on Twitter and said: "She’s the most full of joy, funny, darling person ever. As you can tell. This is really her."

Writer Ashley C. Ford also wrote: "Nobody is healing their inner child harder than Drew Barrymore."

This video wasn't the first time Barrymore encouraged people to enjoy the rain. In May, she posted a similar video with damp hair while it rained and said: "If it's raining anywhere you are, just run out in the rain. Don't miss the opportunity."

The actress rose to fame for her role in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial when she was 7-years-old. Unfortunately, she later grappled with alcohol and drug addiction, went to rehab at the age of 12, then relapsed at 13 years old.

Many people on social media are sharing how happy Barrymore's video makes them as she has been open about her childhood struggles many times.

In her 2015 interview with the Guardian, the mother of two said that her 14-year-old self imagined having a happy life at the age of 40 despite all her difficult life experiences.

"I was so scared of not knowing where I was going. I really had a fear that I was going to die at 25," Barrymore disclosed. She said that even when life got hard, she always maintained that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.

"I never went all the way into darkness. There were so many things I could have done that would have pushed me over the edge and I just knew not to go there," she added.
