Eminem's new track with Kid Cudi is taking on many of 2020's most polemical topics. From the issue of police brutality to people not wearing masks during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the two rappers are clearly frustrated.
The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady marks the first time that the two hitmakers have collaborated on a song. It dropped at midnight last night (July 9th) and provides a searing commentary on the world today.
Kid Cudi opens the track by rapping, "Yeah, it’s been a minute, but I’m back in it", and then they discuss rehab, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, racial injustice in the US, and finally, the coronavirus pandemic.
Listen to the track below:Slim Shady, in particular, takes umbrage with the fact that some people are refusing to wear masks to protect other people, who may be more vulnerable, from contracting Covid-19.
He raps:
"F*ck going on man? Bunch of half wits up in office / Half of us walkin’ around like a zombie apocalypse, other half are just pissed off and don’t wanna wear a mask / And they’re just scoffin’, and that’s how you end catchin’ the sick off ’em / I just used the same basket as you shoppin’, Now I’m in a f*ckin’ casket from you coffin".
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, also comments on the issue of police brutality, and specifically references the deaths of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery.
"Prayers to George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, how the fuck is it that so many cops dirty? / Stop man please officer I’m sorry, but I can’t breathe when I got you on top of me, your god damn knee’s in my carotid artery," he says.
This is Kid Cudi's third track of 2020, and follows Leader of Delinquents and The Scotts with Travis Scott. Eminem collaborated with Jessie Reyez on Coffin back in March, and also dropped his 11th album, Music to be Murdered By, at the beginning of the year.
