Eminem's daughter Hailie speaks out for the first time about her 'close' relationship to the rapper
While being Eminem's daughter would undoubtedly have its benefits, it would also be pretty weird. Slim Shady's music isn't exactly known for its timid nature, and growing up listening to your dad rapping about how much he wants to kill your mom can't have been ideal. However, for Hailie Mathers, this was the reality of her situation.
Hailie, the subject of many Eminem songs, has grown up since the days of the Marshall Mathers LP and has now graduated from university and got herself a boyfriend.
Yep, some unlucky/lucky guy has had to go through the rigmarole that is meeting your girlfriend's dad and being confronted with Eminem.
However, while you may think Eminem would do all that he could to intimidate the boy, it turns out that the father approves. A source close to Hailie said:
"Marshall was just hitting the big time at the age Evan is now, making headlines for his shocking lyrics and toxic relationship with Kim. Evan studied economics and is a keen golfer, there's a huge difference!
"Hailie's family have welcomed Evan, they are a fantastic young couple who love cosy nights in rather than hard partying."
Aside from focusing on her relationship, Hailie has also been focusing on upping her Instagram game - with the 22-year-old having close to 1 million followers on the social media site.
Asked what her plans are now that she has finished college, Hailie said:
"I'm not sure yet, it's kind of up in the air, still.
"People have been reaching out through [Instagram], as I don't have any [management]."
While her father achieved worldwide fame through rap, Hailie is not interested in a musical career and is not even sure if she wants to live in the spotlight. A source close to her said:
"Hailie wanted to test the water by sharing some of her life on Instagram but is not yet ready to fully put herself out there.
"She enjoys keeping a low profile, walking her dog and going to fitness classes, hanging out with her friends and holidaying with Evan.
"She had a normal life at university and was in a sorority, she was popular and focused hard on her studies."
Hailie now resides in a four bedroom property in Detroit and regularly visits her mother and two half-siblings. The 22-year-old also maintains that she remains close to her father, saying: "Of course, we are very close."
Eminem, on his part, has rarely spoken about his daughter in public. However, back in 2002, he admitted that she is his main source of inspiration.
"She has been my main source of drive and motivation, especially when she was first born. I didn't have a career yet, I didn't have money, I didn't have a place to live. I think that kicked me in the a** harder knowing, 'How am I going to raise her?'
"She's always been the driving force for me to stay busy, stay focused, always been my number one reason for fear of failure. I can't fail. I can't have her grow up and not be able to say, 'My dad succeeded'.
"I talk about her a lot, the truth is she is all I got in this world. If everything ended tomorrow, she's all that I have."
It will be interesting what path Hailie's life takes. But, undoubtedly, because of her family name, she'll have opportunities that are ill-afforded to average folk.
