If there's one thing that the internet loves to indulge in more than anything else, it's conspiracy theories. All you have to do is spend enough time on YouTube, Twitter, or Reddit, and - eventually - you'll stumble across someone who is absolutely convinced that the world is governed by a secret society of elites, or that time-travelers have been walking amongst us for centuries.

However, of all the weird conspiracies out there, it's the celebrity ones that get the most attention.

Remember the one about Avril Lavigne having been replaced by a not-so-convincing doppelganger? Or that Keanu Reaves is somehow immortal? Or that Tupac is actually alive and well somewhere?

Of course, all of those are a bit too far-fetched to be true, and nobody really gives them much credence in the real world. But sometimes - very rarely - a theory comes along that is just about ridiculous enough to get some attention, but also plausible enough to be convincing.

And that's exactly what happened with former Glee star, Lea Michele.

The 31-year-old actress and singer shot to fame after a long Broadway career when she landed the role of Rachel Berry on the sugary sweet TV series. Michele stayed in the role for six years, until the show's end, and has since gone on to secure several other acting roles, as well as working on her singing career.

Even if you're not familiar with the star, then, it's pretty obvious that she's got her life together and is doing pretty well for herself. With that in mind, it might come as somewhat of a surprise that the theory going around about her is that she is unable to read and write.

And people genuinely believe this.

Honestly, I don't know what would be more impressive: that Michele has been working as an actress since the age of eight, keeping up with her education along the way, or that she's managed to found a career which demands the ability to read and recite lines without actually being literate.

Well, as you can imagine, Michele herself found this pretty absurd, too.

The conspiracy was deliberately made up by Jaye Hunt and Robert Ackerman, hosts of the podcast One More Thing, more than eight months ago. The pair posted a 40-minute Facebook video about their theory, and claim that it stemmed from an account in  Naya Rivera's memoir, Sorry Not Sorry, in which the actress claimed her Glee co-star refused to improvise her lines one day on set.

This was then bolstered by the fact that Michele had left school at eight (which is true) - but neither Hunt nor Ackerman could come up with a plausible explanation for how the actress was able to learn lines, use social media, or just navigate the world in general without such a basic skill.

Thankfully, Michele took the whole thing as one big joke, and was happy to clarify that she can, in fact, read and write - as if we couldn't have guessed that.
