Heidi Klum has spoken out about the lingerie photoshoot she did with her daughter after it sparked a wave of backlash on social media.
As previously reported, Klum was forced to turn off the comments on her Instagram account following a wave of controversy surrounding a lingerie photoshoot featuring her and her 19-year-old daughter, Leni Klum.
The photoshoot, a collaboration with the Italian lingerie brand Intimissimi, ignited a firestorm of criticism from fans.
The series of photos shared by Klum showcased the mother-daughter duo donning matching lace lingerie sets. Heidi donned a lilac two-piece with lace trimmings, while Leni sported a white ensemble adorned with rainbow bead detailing, complemented by a satin overshirt. The two were snapped holding hands.
Despite the innocuous intention of promoting "the heart of Italian lingerie," the shoot's premise did not sit well with a considerable portion of Heidi Klum's fanbase, who labeled it as "weird" and "embarrassing."
The backlash grew so intense that the 49-year-old celebrity felt compelled to disable comments on her post. Unfortunately, Leni, who also shared the same photos on her own account, left her comments enabled, resulting in a torrent of opinions spilling over to her page as well.
Klum has since broken her silence on the backlash in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail.
The model said: "It's been fun to shoot together. To do photoshoots together with her and just to see how she's just very comfortable and also comfortable around me even when we're doing underwear shoots or something like that."
Klum went on: "It makes me proud that my daughter is super comfortable in her skin also in front of me and around me because not every kid is in the world. So, I love that we have this beautiful relationship."
This isn't the first time Klum has resorted to turning off comments in response to controversy. In October last year, she faced a similar situation when she shared images from the same photoshoot that attracted a deluge of negative comments.
In light of the ongoing backlash, Leni spoke to Page Six about her perspective on the situation. "I honestly didn't look at a lot of the reactions," she revealed. "I am overall happy with the campaign, and I had an amazing day with my mom. I think the photos turned out great, and we had an amazing time."
Leni went on to explain her strategy for dealing with online comments and criticism, stating: "I just don't look at it, honestly. If I don't look at it, I don't have to pay any attention to it, so I just don't know what is there."
