When Donald Trump was running for president, his daughter Ivanka was hailed as a stabilizing influence. Supposedly she would be the voice of reason, and talk him down from his more extreme positions. Critics say that Ivanka has failed to have any influence on the president, and has instead been complicit in his agenda. As a "special adviser," she's been an ambassador of sorts, traveling around the world to do photo-ops and promote her father's policies.
On Monday, Ivanka visited Iowa to talk about President Trump's infrastructure spending proposal. It includes funding for federal job training programs, so she toured a science facility and took part in some experiments. For one test, she measured the nicotine content in "vape juice," and really got into the part, wearing a white coat, safety goggles and latex gloves. "I can’t promise that I’ll get this right," said the First Daughter. "but at least we’ll look the part, right?" Yes, you will! A photo of Ivanka science-ing went viral, as everyone found the image hilarious.
On Twitter, people turned the image into a meme, saying that it looks like the former model is cosplaying as a scientist. Considering her father's contentious policies, they joked that Scientist Ivanka was up to something sinister.
This user speculated that Ivanka was training for the "Space Force." During a speech at the Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego, President Trump suggested that the United States needs a new military branch called a "Space Force." "We're doing a tremendous amount of work in space," said the president. "I said, maybe we need a new force. We'll call it the Space Force. And I was not really serious, and then I said, 'What a great idea!' Maybe we'll have to do that." Well, it looks like we found the first recruit.
This dog photo is pretty much perfect.
Who doesn't like to science?
One female engineer reached out to say hi to Ivanka, tweeting a photo of herself making a battery. Maybe one day they can science together.
Hey, at least Ivanka is getting involved. She seems far more curious about science than her father, who has removed several environmental protections, and once called climate change "a hoax invented by the Chinese."
This person joked that Ivanka is in the lab trying to create a personality for her husband, Jared Kushner. Think about it - you've never heard him speak, have you?
Well, this photo has definitely raised awareness about the important job of science-ing. All across the world, people do science, pouring things into breakers, while wearing safety goggles and latex gloves. I hope more young people are encouraged to science. It would probably be a more fulfilling job then the president's special adviser.
