Don't be fooled by the rock hard abs that she got, Jennifer Lopez is actually much older than she looks. The singer and actress will turn 50 this summer, but - unlike most people approaching the half-century milestone - she somehow doesn't look a day over 30.
Sure, you can argue that a lot of celebrities manage to look younger thanks to the help of a little cosmetic surgery and the riches to afford the best diet/exercise routine out there, but, even so, J-Lo looks impossibly youthful. Her figure, her skin, her hair - even her energy seems to be that of someone at least 20 years her junior.
Amazingly, though, she's been willing to share the secrets of her youthful looks - and they aren't that hard to attain.
One of the most important things that Lopez does in order to stay healthy is to avoid processed foods. That means no bread, no chocolate, and definitely no sneaky trips to McDonald's. According to Hollywood Life, "She mixes [her meals] up but a typical day is salmon and a veggie-packed salad. She loves broccoli, peppers and zucchini with a drizzle of vinaigrette on top. She usually has a protein with quinoa for dinner."
She has admitted to snacking, though - but not on the types of things that us mere mortals normally turn to. Much like the rest of her meals, J-Lo's snacks are all natural, and she likes to stick to fruit and veggies between mealtimes.
The singer also said that she likes to keep her mealtimes fairly regular, and will eat with her two children at around 6.30pm every evening.
It's not all about the grub, though!
As you may have guessed from her amazing bod', the 49-year-old star spends a lot of time at the gym. But what makes her workout stand out from the rest of ours? Well, according to her, the secret is variety.
Working with her (very pricey) personal trainers, Lopez pushes herself to do a mixture of cardio and weight training, usually in the mornings. "I don’t like doing it later; it’s harder to get there when I have my day going already," she said. "I work out three or four times a week."
Unlike a lot of mad celebrity routines, then, working out three times a week is actually pretty doable. And her sleep schedule is probably something we can all relate to as well.
"I love a good nine or 10 hours [sleeping], but I can never get that," she said. "So seven or eight is mandatory. [If I don’t get it] I just don’t feel right. I start feeling crazy, I get emotional and I feel tired all the time."
But here's one of the main reasons she still has such a youthful glow: she takes extra special care of her skin in the sun. "I’m rarely in the sun, but if I am, I wear a lot of sunscreen," she said. "I’ve never been one to take a lot of sun, which is why my skin has maintained itself."
And she also abstains from three things that many of us probably indulge in on the regular: alcohol, coffee, and cigarettes. "That really wrecks your skin as you get older," she explained.
So, if you want a body like J-Lo's, there are just a few basic rules you have to follow: eat well, work out regularly, and consider the wellbeing of your skin in your daily routine. Of course, we can't guarantee that abiding by those regulations will give you her world-famous booty, but it's certainly better than nothing!
