Amber Heard was asked by Johnny Depp's lawyer why she smiled and rolled her eyes in an August 2016 deposition video that was played to the court on Tuesday.

Jurors at the $50 million trial in Fairfax, Virginia, saw footage of Heard being questioned about allegedly hitting her former husband. She could be seen apparently smiling and rolling her eyes during the deposition.

In the clip, the actress is seen listing to an audio recording of a conversation she'd had with Depp, in which they discuss an alleged altercation, with Depp repeatedly claiming his wife punched him.

Heard denies punching him in the audio, arguing that the Edward Scissorhands star had slammed a bathroom door into her toes so she pushed back the door, which had struck him in the head. She is heard repeatedly apologizing to her then-husband.

While Heard listens to the recording during her deposition, she is seen eating a snack, looking around the room and shaking her head.

At one point, she appears to smile and roll her eyes. She also starts talking to another person in the room as voices are heard in the background of the video.

During cross-examination which continued after the clip was played on Tuesday, Depp's lawyer, Camille Vasquez, questioned Heard about the deposition and asked her if she thought there was "something amusing" about allegedly assaulting her ex-husband.

Heard responded by insisting that she was smiling because of the situation -  that is, the lawyers who were “snickering and laughing” in the room at the time of the videotaped deposition.

“You’re smiling as that audio recording is being played in that deposition, aren’t you?” Vasquez said, per The Independent.

Heard replied: “I’m not smiling because of the audio. I’m smiling because of what is happening around me. I was sitting opposite a whole table of lawyers that were snickering and laughing and rolling their eyes at me while I was talking.”

Depp's lawyer then asked The Rum Diary star if there was something “amusing” about her allegedly abusing her ex.

“Is there something amusing about kicking a door into your husband’s head?” she asked.

“No, I was rolling my eyes and commenting on what I was experiencing at that time in recounting the story,” Heard said.

Ms Vasquez continued: “Is there something amusing about punching your husband in the jaw?”

Heard stated: “That is not what I was smiling about and no I do not think that is amusing.”
