Yesterday, Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West after seven years of marriage, TMZ reported, with their sources adding that it is an amicable split.

Now, after news broke that Kim is filing for divorce, Kanye has allegedly been speaking with his friends and family, and is concerned that his failed presidential campaign led to the downfall of his marriage.

A source told PEOPLE:

"He’s in that place of ‘if only’. If only I had done this, if only I hadn’t done that.’ He’s processing things. He thinks that the Presidential run was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Before that, there was hope. After that, none. It cost him his marriage."

During his turbulent campaign, the Yeezy rapper made some controversial comments about his wife and their first child, North. During a rally in July of 2020, he claimed that he originally wanted Kim to abort their first child, but that divine intervention intercepted.

He then went on to take aim at the Kardashian-Jenner family on Twitter, referring to its matriarch, Kris, as "Kris Jong-Un."

As part of the divorce settlement, Kim wants legal and physical custody of their four children, with sources telling the news outlet that Kanye is happy with this arrangement and is committed to co-parenting his children with Kim.

The couple has a prenup which neither party is contesting, and sources have told TMZ that they are close to reaching an agreement about their property.

Per Buzzfeed News, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Superior Court stated that the divorce documents were filed on Friday (February 19), and that they did not list a date of separation; instead, it is registered as to be determined.

The papers were filed by celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasserdo, after Page Six reported last month that Kim had hired her.
