Last year was a big year for Kylie Jenner. The 21-year-old became a mother, made headlines for being a (supposedly) self-made billionaire, and smashed the world record for the most likes on an Instagram picture after sharing an image of her newborn daughter, Stormi Webster.
2019, on the other hand, has already been a huge disappointment for her - and it's all thanks to an egg.

On January 4th, an account named @world_record_egg posted their first and only picture. It was, as you may have guessed by now, of an egg. Not a particularly special egg, by any means. Just a normal, boring, see-it-every-day-at-the-supermarket type of egg.
Do you want to see the egg?
Ok, here is the egg:
"Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this," the caption read.
And, as of Sunday night, the record was - much like my scrambled eggs before I put them in the frying pan - beaten.
At the time of writing, in fact, the post is just shy of 26.5 million likes - just creeping up on one and a half times as many double taps as baby Stormi got.
In response, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star posted this video with the caption, "Take that little egg" - which, actually, seems sort of mean.
It's not yet known who is behind the mysterious egg account, or why this person decided to post a picture of an egg, or even how it managed to get so many likes in just 10 days. After all, Kylie has 123 million followers and had been posting consistently for years by the time she managed to break the record for having the most Insta likes. The egg, meanwhile, has just 2.8 million followers, a single post, and is literally younger than some of the eggs I have in my fridge at home.
But this isn't the first time that a joke account has managed to achieve such widespread support.
Over on Twitter, a picture of half an onion in a Ziploc back managed to amass 635,000 followers in 2017, and, in the same year, a 16-year-old named Carter Wilkerson attained a record number of retweets after asking Wendy’s for free chicken nuggets. This has since been broken by a Japanese businessman who promised money for retweets, but Wilkerson's feat still seems more admirable somehow.
So, yeah. An egg is officially more popular than Kylie Jenner. Do with this information what you will.
