Although more and more plus-sized models are helping to spread a body positive message and campaigning for people to embrace the skin they're in, it's still clear that, as a society, we've got a long way to go.

For instance, this week the singer-songwriter Lizzo has taken to social media, to ask her followers why the video-sharing platform TikTok has decided to remove videos of herself wearing swimsuits.

In a video posted to her official TikTok account, Lizzo can be seen singing soulfully to the camera. Along the bottom of the screen, Lizzo stated in a caption: "TikTok keeps taking down my videos of me in my bathing suits. But allows other videos with girls in bathing suits. I wonder why? TikTok…we need to talk. [sic]""

A spokesperson for TikTok later told the British newspaper The Guardian that a moderator had decided to ban the videos out of a belief that they had been posted for the purposes of 'sexual gratification,' after Lizzo posted a clip of herself lifting up her skirts.

Furthermore, TikTok claims that once the undergarments she exposed were confirmed to be Spanx and not underwear, Lizzo's videos were promptly reinstated exactly as originally uploaded.

The spokesperson went on to say: "We love Lizzo’s creativity. And the videos were originally removed because of other violations, not a bathing suit."

This isn't the first time that Lizzo has got pretty candid with the content she's posted on social media, and back in December she stunned her followers with some candid nude snaps.

However, that didn't stop her from incurring the ire of celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels, who stated her belief that Lizzo's body confidence is actually promoting a recklessly unhealthy lifestyle.
