Madonna fans have been left having to do a double-take after watching Sunday night's Grammy Awards, as the iconic singer appeared unrecognizable to some.
Now, there is no denying that Madonna is one of the biggest stars the music industry has ever seen. As well as being a seven-time Grammy winner in her own right, he has also remained at the forefront of music for the better part of four decades - with Guinness recognizing her as the best-selling female artist of all time.
And as well as repeatedly churning out smash hit after smash hit, one way Madonna kept herself relevant is by reinventing herself and changing up her looks. In fact, she's just as much of a fashion icon as she is a music legend.
Last night (February 5), the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles played host to the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, and Madonna is just one of the many stars to be on everybody's lips the morning after - and it's all down to her look.
Check out Madonna's look below:In fact, while introducing Sam Smith and Kim Petras, the 'Like a Virgin' star laid out the gospel according to Madonna, saying: "If they call you shocking, scandalous, troublesome, problematic, provocative or dangerous, you are definitely on to something."
Of course, Madonna was most likely referencing the backlash Smith has faced for their latest music video, but her important words also echoed the response from her own fans.
At the show, Madonna once again turned heads with a very unique look - donning a formal black skirt with a corset blazer, black jacket, and white shirt complete with a black tie.
The stylized formal look certainly took fans by surprise, and many people rushed to social media to comment on how the singer didn't look her normal "unrestrained" self.
One viewer tweeted: "My brain didn't recognize her as Madonna as I know her. Like blonde Cher, it's weird to me."
A second person tweeted: "I would not recognize Madonna if they didn’t say it was her."
Commenting on her Instagram post, one of her 18 million followers even quipped: "You look like Marilyn Manson", with a second Instagram user comparing the look to that of Ms. Trunchbull from Matilda (it really was the riding crop that did it).
Another suggested that she should "fire her stylist".
And a fourth Instagram user questioned: "Omg!!! Who are you??? Where’s Madonna???"
Now, the internet being the internet, there were also plenty of people commenting on Madonna's face and making surgery suggestions - but I think this Twitter user said it best when they wrote: "Madonna at the Grammys 2023. Despite the crap she’s getting for looking so fresh for a woman or a certain age. Jealousy you can’t afford to like that."
Whether you love her or hate her, one thing has remained the same over the last 40 years: Everybody knows the name 'Madonna'.
