Gwen Stefani has left fans in shock as they claimed that the 54-year-old singer looked "unrecognizable" during a resurfaced interview.
In an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Stefani discussed her role on the singing competition show The Voice, but it was her apparently "unrecognizable" appearance that stole the spotlight.
The buzz began after Stefani posted a brief clip of the interview on her Instagram, a post that has since been deleted.
Wearing a black, fringed, cut-out pantsuit paired with a cobalt blue fishnet bolero, Stefani's outfit and look gained mixed reactions from her 14.5 million fans.
Check out the interview below:Some were quick to comment on her changed appearance, with one stating: "Unrecognizable," and another pleading: "I am so sorry to say this, but I did not recognize her. Please Gwen, STOP!"
Another concerned fan expressed: "I didn't even notice who she was. I was like, no, that's not her, and I looked up recent videos of her. Yeah... That's really Gwen. Please stop. No more surgeries."
A comparison to Donatella Versace, known for her affinity for fillers, added fuel to the discussion.
Stefani, renowned for her trademark platinum locks and bold red lips, has faced criticism over her appearance, reigniting debates on the media's scrutiny of female celebrities as they get older.
The singer has previously confronted ageism, particularly after receiving backlash for being deemed "too old" for certain performances, such as the NBC New Year's Eve Special in 2020, where critics labeled her an Ariana Grande wannabe.
In a 2021 interview with HELLO Magazine, Stefani shared her concerns about making a comeback in the music industry: "At the beginning of this process, I felt like I had to make excuses for why I wanted to make new music. I felt like people were going to judge me and be like, 'Well, you're like super old. Why would you even want to?'"
She added: "This is just how my brain works. Anyone would, you know what I mean? Everybody has their own fears or insecurities."
Though it seems Stefani, who married The Voice co-star, Blake Shelton, last year, hasn't let those insecurities get the better of her.
She also told the New York Times that aging was something that inevitably happens to all of us: "It's a natural thing to think about, your evolution… in nature you see it all the time. We're just born to die. You can think of it like it's a tragedy… but you're finding what is the truth, what is important."
