Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly have been called out for "romanticizing" a "toxic" relationship.
This Halloween, the couple, who announced their engagement in January, dressed up as former celebrity couple Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.
Both Fox, 36, and MGK, 32, took to their respective Instagram accounts to share snaps and footage of them "in character" as the ex-lovers.
Kelly captioned his post: "Happy Halloween virgins 👼🏼." Meanwhile, his fiancée captioned hers: "But are these even costumes."
Anderson and Lee's relationship went south after one of their sex tapes was stolen and distributed by an electrician in 1996, and Lee was arrested following a physical altercation with Anderson.
Per a 1998 report by the LA Times, Lee was sentenced to six months in Los Angeles County Jail for "battering" his then wife Anderson.
Lee pleaded no contest to charges that he kicked the Baywatch star multiple times while she was holding their baby boy.
The Motley Crue drummer was also handed three years probation and conditions were in place that, if violated, would have meant more time behind bars.
The pair later divorced, with Lee going on to pen in his 2001 memoir, per Vogue: “I couldn’t understand why Pamela had followed through with pressing charges. She was probably scared and thought I was some crazy, violent monster; she probably thought she was doing the right thing for the kids; and she probably wanted an easy way out of a difficult situation. As much as I loved Pamela, she had a problem dealing with things.”
Anyway, when Fox and MGK casually shared their Halloween outfits online, people accused the pair of glamorizing an "abusive" relationship.
One wrote: "This is super insensitive and weird considering he horribly abused her."
Another added: "[Tommy] lee abused pamela anderson... y'all are sick."
A third wrote: "tommy hit on Pamela, that's not cool!!! stop with that."
A final person commented: "People dressing up a Pam & Tommy is SO disrespectful to PAM & TOMMY. There’s so many videos, photos, outfits that y’all can use of Pam & Tommy individually but y’all chose them together?!?? Did y’all forgot how toxic that relationship was?!?? Stop romanticizing toxic couples. Ugh."
