Every year, the Golden Globes makes headlines, and almost always for predictable reasons. "So-and-so wore this dress" or "Blah Blah picked up an award for X category" yada yada yada. It's always the same. This time around, however, things were slightly different - and not just because Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh hosted the event in the most adorably wholesome way.

While everyone else was focusing on looking their best and striking a pose on the red carpet, Melissa McCarthy was smuggling in dozens of ham and cheese sandwiches - just in case anyone got hungry while the ceremony was going on.

The Bridesmaids star somehow brought in 30 plastic-wrapped sandwiches, and is thought to have bought them from 'Joan's on Third' - a fancy LA restaurant and food market. An apricot-glazed ham and brie ciabatta from there will set you back $12.95, so this is hardly a home-packed lunch we're talking about here.

"I’ve been handing them out to everyone," McCarthy told Variety. "Next year, I’m bringing hot dogs."

So popular were the rolls, in fact, that other stars mentioned them during the evening.

"How did she get them in here?" asked Jessica Chastain. "But it’s a good idea because by the time you get into the ballroom dinner has already been served, and you’re always so hungry."

Olivia Coleman, too, gave a shoutout to the sandwiches when she went up to collect her award for the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical Film after her performance in The Favourite. She didn't mention McCarthy by name, but it's clear who she was talking about.

"Thank you for the sandwiches, amazing," she said.

McCarthy was in attendance at the Globes with a nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her role in Will You Ever Forgive Me? This was her second Golden Globe nomination after her 2015 performance in Spy. Unfortunately, she missed out on the award to Glenn Close, who won for her role in The Wife. McCarthy may not have been expecting to win anyway, as Lady Gaga was actually tipped to be the victor - and Close clearly didn't think she'd be taking home the gong by the looks of her expression.

"Oh my gosh! Thank you so much Hollywood Foreign Press, this is such a great honour. And I'm so honoured to be with my category sisters," Close said during her acceptance speech. "We've gotten to know each other a little bit so far and I can't wait to spend more time with you. Everything that you did this year - or, what you're here for - we all should be up here together."

While McCarthy missed out on the award, then, she certainly won over the hearts of her fellow actors - not to mention us! - when she fed them during the ceremony.

And, for future reference, if you're ever wandering around an awards ceremony and Melissa McCarthy happens to be there, she's probably your best bet for finding some extra snacks.
