Naked Sydney Sweeney slammed online as 'grown men make X-rated spreadsheets' about intimate part of her body
Sydney Sweeney has once again been blasted online after remarking that "grown men make X-rated spreadsheets" about an intimate part of her body in a new advert for the prediction market Novig.
Last month, the 29-year-old Euphoria star found herself in hot water after launching a promotional campaign for the sports trading app.
In the commercial, Sweeney appeared to be completely naked, using strategic placement of athletic equipment such as footballs, basketballs, hockey pads, and tennis racquets to cover her body.
Although the advertisement was launched to promote the sports-focused platform, it attracted criticism from prominent female athletes and online users who accused it of unnecessarily sexualizing women's sport.
One widely shared comment on Instagram stated: "As a former athlete and a woman who has personally experienced sexualised comments, I'm genuinely disgusted and deeply disappointed by this campaign.
"We've spent years fighting to be seen and respected for our talent, strength, and achievements-not reduced to our bodies…"
Another person denounced the actress: "While women in sports are fighting to be seen for their talent and not to be sexualised this clearly Undo all the efforts, atp she just knows what works for her and she'll go any length for that attention. Sydney Sweeney is no FEMINIST."
Four-time Olympic swimming champion Ariarne Titmus called the ad "an absolute joke" and pointed out: "There's a big difference between looking 'sexy' because you do sport compared to using sex to sell 'sport'"
Titmus also shared on her Instagram story: "There is nothing wrong with looking good and doing sport, and there's nothing wrong with embracing your femininity while also being a badass athlete."
Actress releases another revealing commercial
It seems the backlash did not affect the Anyone But You star, as she has shared a new clip from her promotional campaign on her Instagram.
This time, she is walking around in white briefs that say "Novig" and talking about intimate parts of her body.
"There are grown men making spreadsheets to bet on what color underwear I'm wearing," she said in the clip. "I mean, I'm flattered."
She then says: "There's insider trading on dictators dying and armies of bots manipulating it all. There's someone sitting in a bathroom stall betting their 401on a war."
Sweeney then concludes the ad by standing there with two footballs covering her breasts and saying: "And then there are people who just trade on sports. No big 'ifs' just sports."
Viewers once again took to the comment section to question the correlation between the nudity and sports marketing.
"Why do you have to be naked to market sports? What’s the correlation?" one person asked.
"They 'just sports' but you sitting up there naked..." another chimed in, while a third added: "Just embarrassing."
Meanwhile, others defended the actress and praised her for not letting the criticism affect her.
"Standing on business. Doubling down on the hate. Your The Goat," one person said. "Sweeney don’t give a f**! Love it 🤣 they gonna be pissed again!"
Sweeney previously responded to the backlash
Rather than issuing a standard PR apology after the original controversy, Sweeney took to her Instagram story to share additional nude images from the ad.
She then posted pictures of real elite athletes who had previously posed naked or were partially naked for ESPN's famous "Body Issue" special editions.
The collection included stripped-down photos of tennis legend Serena Williams, UFC champion Ronda Rousey, NFL star Rob Gronkowski, and NBA player Karl-Anthony Towns.
The post appeared to draw comparisons between her campaign and the celebration of athletes in professional sports, although Sweeney did not explicitly state her reason.
