Netflix has been slammed for releasing a new Matt Rife special after he sparked controversy at one of his previous shows.

Last November, the 28-year-old - who rose to fame on TikTok - came under fire for making distasteful jokes in his comedy special, Natural Selection, which was released on the streaming service.

In the initial joke that caused the offense, he told the audience: "I've only been to Baltimore one time, and the hostess who seats you had a black eye - a full black eye. It wasn't like, 'What happened?' It was pretty obvious what happened.

"But we couldn't get over, like, this is the face of the company? This is who you have greeting people? And my boy, who I was with, was like: 'Yeah, I feel bad for her, man, I feel like they should put her in the kitchen or something where nobody has to see her face.'

"And I was like: 'Yeah, but I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn't have that black eye,'" he added.

Some audience members called him out for it at the time, he replied: "I figured we start the show with domestic violence, the rest of the show should be pretty smooth sailing. Of course, I felt bad for her. She should have had her protection crystals, you know what I mean?"

When people started to denounce him online, the former Wild N' Out contestant decided to double down by sharing a response that left fans even less impressed.

He took to his Instagram Story to share a picture of himself on stage with the caption: "If you've ever been offended by a joke I've told - here's a link to my official apology."

Under that, there was a link that he'd titled: "Tap to solve your issue," which took people to a website where people could buy helmets designed for people with special needs.

Now it's been revealed that Netflix released Rife's newest project titled: Matt Rife: Lucid - A Crowd Work Special on Tuesday (August 13).

Many took to X to criticize the platform, with one user commenting: "@Netflix why are you doing another matt rife special? I cringed so hard seeing his face pop up on my TV just now."

Another user asked: "How the f*** did Matt Rife get a SECOND Netflix special? was it all the hatewatchers boosting the view numbers?" while a third questioned: "Ugh. This guy’s back?"

A fourth said: "They rlly gave Matt rife ANOTHER stand up special on Netflix ….pls say sike rn."

The show is the platform's first-ever crowd work special, which essentially means the content is created by conversations had with Rife.

In an interview with Forbes, Rife shared: "What I love about crowd work is it doesn't burn anything, and it's new for every single show. It's exciting for me. And I take great pride in that because so many comedians don't switch up their set at all."
