It's a strange day when someone other than Donald Trump is dominating headlines. But in this case, the person in question isn't so far removed from the 45th President of the United States. In fact, they share a penchant for engaging in thumb-wars over social media, and even have the same name. I am, of course, speaking about Donald Trump Jr.

However, it appears as though the 40-year-old is following in daddy's footsteps in more than one regard... divorce.

Last week, his wife of 13 years, Vanessa, filed for divorce and a veritable media maelstrom ensued. While sources allege that Vanessa's decision stemmed from everything from her annoyance at Trump Jr.'s contentious Twitter presence to his purported frugality, cheating rumours have continued to colour this difficult time in the Trump household.

And now, Perez Hilton has claimed that Trump Jr. had an affair with singer Aubrey O'Day when she appeared on The Apprentice back in 2012. I mean, is there anything more on brand for this family than infidelity?

According to human rumour mill and bona fide pot-stirrer, Perez Hilton, Trump Jr. cheated on his wife with a former Apprentice contestant.

The report reads, "Well-placed sources tell us that Donald Trump Jr. and his wife, Vanessa, have been having marriage troubles for many, many years. In fact, we're told they almost broke up prior to her recent divorce filing because Don Jr. engaged in an extramarital relationship with Aubrey O'Day after she appeared on Celebrity Apprentice in 2012!"

And it doesn't just end there. Hilton said that "insiders" stated that the 34-year-old singer agreed to enter into a relationship with Trump Jr. because he claimed that he and his wife were in the midst of separating. "Don Jr. was very aggressive, pursuing her, telling her he loved her and that he wanted to be with her," the source elaborated.

Sources have told Page Six that Trump Jr. allegedly treated Vanessa like a "second-class citizen" and provided her with little financial support. "He gives her very little help and has been keeping her on a tight budget,” one source said. “She doesn’t live a lavish life and can very rarely pick up a check at dinner," the insider stated.

However, they also reported that the couple had faced problems since the very beginning of their relationship, with Vanessa's friends reportedly having urged her to not go through with the wedding. This was said to have become worse with her father-in-law's election - after which - Trump Jr. developed an increasingly controversial, and far-right-leaning internet presence.

"She was interviewing divorce lawyers before [the Presidency]," a source continued. "No one thought he’d win. He won and she decided to stay until his term is over. But she just couldn’t stand it anymore."

A spokesperson for Vanessa Trump has denied all allegations. "These claims are simply not true. Don and Vanessa have tremendous respect for each other and always have. The notion that she has had to rely on her family for assistance is absolutely false and utterly ridiculous."

"Vanessa is very protective of her five children, as anyone would be, especially those in the public eye,” her spokesperson added. “That said, any claims that she is unhappy with Don posting photos of their children on social is not true. In fact, Vanessa is usually the first to ‘like’ the posts that he shares. Don is a wonderful and very involved father."
