In my opinion, one of the worst parts of a breakup occurs well after the parting words have been said, after the weeks of crying and sadness, even after you've hopefully both moved on to new people.
That emotional pain might have faded away, but if you happen to come across a photo of yourself alongside your lost love, it can bring all of that heartbreak to the surface once more, opening up old wounds in a horrible way. Nicole Scherzinger experienced that familiar feeling in a horrifying new way last month.
There was a moment in time when the former Pussycat Doll looked like she was going to get married to Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton. The pair have since broken up, though, and Nicole was reminded of her past relationship in distressing fashion when an intimate tape of herself and Lewis Hamilton made the rounds online.
Talking to the press at an Oscars party last weekend, Scherzinger admitted that learning that such footage of herself existed on the internet for everyone to see was difficult, to say the least. "It’s been horrible," the 40-year-old revealed.
"I genuinely don’t understand why someone would do something like this, or why they would leak it. It’s an unbelievably mean thing to do," she added, while a source confirms that both herself and Lewis Hamilton are on the lookout for the perpetrator of the leak.
"Nicole and Lewis were both horrified at the breach, and want to get to the bottom of it. They want to know how the hell it got leaked. It’s been mortifying for Nicole, and she feels really violated. She wants to keep a low profile for now, keep her head down and just plough on with work. She just wants to get on with her life, and forget this ever happened."
The video in question involves footage of Hamilton and Scherzinger kissing and cuddling in bed together. While Lewis has not yet commented publicly on the leaked video, he has previously shone a light on the difficult nature of their relationship, which began in 2008.
"It's not been easy - she lives in LA, I live in Monaco and I'm travelling a lot for work," Hamilton, now 34, had said.
"Her job is shifting all the time, whether it's X Factor or Dancing With The Stars or [the musical] Cats or music. Juggling your schedule to meet with the other is very hard, and it's a long year with F1. At one point, I flew to Asia for five weeks and couldn't see her. It's been tough."
The pair are doing their best to move on. Hopefully, they can find the perpetrator, and close this chapter in their respective lives once more.
