I don’t know about you, but when we first met the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, I used to find her reveal quite startling.
But, in more recent years, people are starting to doubt if she is even a lady at all, with social media going crazy about how the pigeon lady may actually be British broadcaster Piers Morgan.
Let me get you up to speed for those who don’t even know who the pigeon lady is.
So, it’s the 1992 sequel to Home Alone, and this time Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin again) is lost alone in New York after getting on a different plane from his family.
As Kevin is navigating New York alone in the dark, he makes a turn into Central Park where he comes across a flock of pigeons. He starts feeding the pigeons until he realizes that one of the pigeons is actually sitting on a woman’s head.
This unnamed pigeon lady who appears homeless likes to tend to the pigeons. However, her appearance initially frightens Kevin, who tries to run away from her.
Of course, the pigeon lady -whose name we never learn - turns out to be a kind character who Kevin ends up befriending.
So, where does Piers Morgan, 57, come into all of this?
In 2020, Susanna Reid brought up the topic on an episode of the British breakfast show Good Morning Britain, which she and Piers Morgan co-hosted at the time.
As per The Independent, Reid said: “Can we just have a look at Home Alone 2 because, frankly, it is the best picture.
“Lots of people watch Home Alone 2 and wonder if this is you.”
Cue a picture of Piers Morgan side by side with the pigeon lady, who is actually played by Irish actor Brenda Fricker:
“Why does this keep coming around? That is not me. I am not the bag lady in Home Alone 2,” Morgan declared.
At the time, GMB creator, Erron Gordon, tweeted an old photo of Piers Morgan, in which the journalist was covered in real pigeons, like the pigeon lady, further fueling the rumor.
Even the TV presenter’s son likes to get in on the joke. In 2018, Spencer Morgan, tweeted: “Chilled night watching Home Alone 2. Always forget you’re in it @piersmorgan.”
In fact, people on Twitter are still convinced that Piers Morgan is the pigeon lady, despite his denying it.
“I'm just saying, I’ve never seen Piers Morgan and the Home Alone 2 Pigeon Lady in the same room,” one Twitter user commented.
Another Twitter user asked: “How much did you get paid to be the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2?”
Despite Morgan’s firm denial, it can’t be disproved that the two certainly have an uncanny resemblance!
