Russell Brand's cryptic 2024 post resurfaces after rape conviction
A resurfaced tweet from Russell Brand seems strangely prophetic today after the star was convicted of rape and sexual assault.
Brand was convicted of historic sexual offences in the UK and will be sentenced on Monday.
Russell Brand’s controversial career
Brand, 51, now faces a lengthy jail sentence after being convicted of rape as well as three sexual assaults.
This brings to a close a lengthy legal process that has gone on for years without closure.
The former Hollywood star has been characterized as a calculated manipulator and sexual predator during his trial, and has been given a custodial order until he is sentenced.
The judge also told him he should expect a lengthy prison sentence.
He was found guilty of raping a woman at his house in London and sexually assaulting women at their workplaces at a radio station and a TV studio.
He had pleaded not guilty to all the charges, which span a 10 year period from 1999.
In his remarks, the judge Mr Justice Bennathan, said: "You’ve been convicted of a number of offences, including one of rape.
"The consequence of that is inevitably a significant custodial term.
"My current view is that I have to therefore remand you in custody.”
Despite the defence asking for an ‘act of humanity’ in allowing Brand to return home this weekend to say goodbye to his children, the judge was not moved.
"Whatever the good intentions of the family and the defendant today, I think there are substantial grounds to fear he might in the end not feel able to come along and face his sentence.”
Brand’s 2024 tweet resurfaces
Now, a tweet that Brand shared in 2024 has resurfaced and seems prophetic given today’s date.
Brand shared a comment on X that read: "The world is never going to be the same after November 5th.”
Well, it seems as if that is certainly true this year.
It’s not clear exactly what Brand was referring to at the time, but it has definitely been recontextualized by this November 5, that’s for sure.
Donald Trump also tweeted about Russell Brand back in 2014
This isn’t the first Russell Brand-related tweet to resurface today.
In fact, no less than the President of the United States - though he wasn’t at the time - has shared their opinion on Brand online.
Brand famously got hitched to pop superstar Katy Perry back in 2010, before Brand filed for divorce in 2011, and that was finalized in 2012.
Weirdly, Trump waited a few years to wade into the situation.
He asked: “What the hell do people see in Russell?”
Trump then went on to call him a ‘major loser’.
Brand responded: "@realDonaldTrump are you drunk when you write these tweets?
"Or does that foam you spray on your bald head make you high?”
Then, the tweet that went famous: "@katyperry Katy, what the hell were you thinking when you married loser Russell Brand.
"There is a guy who has got nothing going, a waste!”
It’s been a bad week for both of them, but only Brand is heading to prison next week.
