Selena Gomez's kidney donor Francia Raisa undergoing 'intense therapy' after trauma

Francia Raisa, the actress best known for becoming Selena Gomez's life-saving kidney donor, has revealed that she is undergoing 'intense therapy.'

Raisa revealed in a TikTok that she had recently been diagnosed with chronic PTSD after years of battling trauma unearthed following a break-up in 2008.

"Three months ago, I learned I have ADHD and chronic PTSD," she said in the video. "Since then, I've been in intense therapy - learning, unlearning, and finally just healing."

How Francia Raisa is overcoming 'chronic PTSD'

Raisa admitted that her trauma stemmed from a "break-up in the dance world" in 2008, saying it turned "something I loved into a trigger," and that it was only in 2022 that her body "started to physically react to the trauma [I'd undergone previously]."

Now armed with the tools to fight her diagnosis, Raisa has said that learning to enjoy dancing again has been a core component of her therapy.

"The thing that hurt me most," she revealed, "is slowly giving me back pieces of myself."

This comes as Raisa is once again hitting headlines due to rumours over the current state of her relationship with Selena Gomez. Raisa, who was previously publicly named by Gomez as one of her best friends, famously donated a kidney to the singer and actress in 2017 as part of her ongoing recovery from lupus.

Many eyes were raised across the internet when people noticed that Raisa was noticeably absent from the guest list of Gomez's recent wedding to pop producer Benny Blanco.

The speculation was enough to make Raisa make a public comment to the media. In a newly shared interview, Raisa shut down rumours of a feud and wished Gomez and Blanco the best.

"I know she's getting married, and I'm very happy for her," she told an outlet while speaking in Spanish. "[Gomez] has a life and she is already a billionaire and I am grateful that I could do that for her."

This all stems from a rampant rumour in 2022 that the previously close pair were involved in a feud. While speaking to Rolling Stone at the time, many thought Gomez was shading Raisa when she stated that the only friend in the industry she had was long-time bestie Taylor Swift (who was, for the record, present at Gomez's wedding, and even did a speech).

Raisa seemed to take umbrage at this, commenting (and quickly deleting) "interesting..." on an Instagram post about Gomez's quote. In response to this, Gomez commented on another post: "Sorry I didn't mention every person I know."

However, the next year in 2023, Gomez was quick to shut down any rumours of ill-feeling between the pair. Saying, "I will never, ever, ever be more in debt to a person that Francia."

That same year, Racia told USA Today that, while she and Gomez had grown distant in recent years, they would never not be friends.

"We’ve never really had beef with each other," she explained. "Nothing happened [between us] and if you ask either of us, we don’t know what happened, but we needed that time apart. Then when you come back together, you’re better people."
