Selena Gomez was asked a question she deemed as "distasteful" on the red carpet and she quickly shut it down.

Gomez, 32, who first gained fame on Barney & Friends and later through Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, has grown into a multifaceted businesswoman.

From her music to acting in hit shows like Only Murders in the Building, her career has been marked by continuous success.

With 424 million Instagram followers, Gomez is the third most-followed person on the platform, trailing behind soccer icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who boast 638 million and 504 million followers, respectively.

Earlier this year it was reported Gomez's net worth has soared to $1.3 billion, largely due to the success of her makeup brand, Rare Beauty, which she founded in 2019.

According to Bloomberg, her stake in the beauty company alone is valued at over $1 billion.

However, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet at the New York Film Festival on Monday, Gomez refrained from boasting about her financial achievements.

“I personally think it’s distasteful to talk about money,” the 32-year-old actress and entrepreneur said.

“But I really am giving all the credit to the people who buy the products. They’re the ones that made this dream of mine come true. So I’m really, really honoured and just happy.”

Launched in 2019, Rare Beauty focuses on promoting mental health awareness and aims to reduce the stigma surrounding it.

A year after launching the beauty brand, Gomez also established the Rare Beauty Impact Fund, which works to provide resources to those in need.

According to the brand’s website, the fund raised over $7 million in 2023, following $5 million in contributions the previous year.

In addition to her beauty empire, Gomez has earned tens of millions from endorsement deals with high-end brands such as Louis Vuitton, Coach, and Puma. Her Emmy-nominated role in Hulu's Only Murders in the Building also contributes to her wealth, earning her "at least" $6 million per season, according to Bloomberg.

Despite her achievements in acting and music - where she has received Emmy and Grammy nominations - these ventures account for only a small fraction of her overall fortune.
